We had this thread a year ago but it's that time of year again. EBay is a great place to buy magazine subscriptions when you're on a tight budget. The down-side is that it can take up to 90 days to get the first issue but many sellers will send a gift announcement via mail or email upon request. We get Nick, Popular Science and Surfing magazines. I've ordered from several different sellers without a glitch. I've just ordered a second subscription to Surfing Magazine for my son's gift to his dad. 2 years for $12, no shipping charge, free gift notification - this will fit in even his budget!

However, do not (repeat DO NOT) put the recipient's address in the "My Addresses" section of My eBay. Just include it in the notes section of the PayPal payment.
eBay's software looks at My Addresses and assumes that anyone in there is authorized to use your account. That's how I got in trouble last year, by sending a gift subscription to a customer. It triggered a shill bidding alert. Or so eBay spokesdroid "Chester" said. I'm still not sure I believe it.

Our daughter asked for a subscription to Consumer Reports (hers had run out). It would be about $29 a year. But on eBay I found 3-years for about $29 total. Such a bargain.

There are a ton of magazines subscriptions for under $5 (with no shipping charges), and many are for 2-3 years.
