I sold a purse last week. The buyer recieved it today and was pleased with the condition of the purse but it wasn't the color she thought it was. I admit that the pictures made the purse look brown, but in the description I said to scroll down for more pictures that the last picture showed the true color of the purse and that the color looked different in different lights.
I do refund if I have not described the item or if it has a flaw that I didn't reveal.
I explained that to her but she is insisting on a refund because she doesn't like the color.
What would you do, and if you wouldn't refund how would you respond in a professional manner?
Personally I don't feel obligated to do a refund, but I don't want my first negative either...which she does know how to give when it comes to Coach purses.
Help please..............

What I would do is refund her money once you receive the purse back. She should pay shipping back to you since you did explain that the color of the purse was correct in the last picture,

Sometimes its easier to refund and move on and keep a happy customer, and then mutually agree to not complete the transaction so you will receive your FVF back.

I agree with Toni. Ask her to return the purse and then refund just the winning bid, no postage.

Response? Simple...

To quote Fluffy: Send it back.

As far as refund or not, it sounds like there may have been some confusion in your auction with the color of the purse. Different monitors will show colors differently.

If I recall correctly, Coach purses have specific color names. Did you look it up on their website and state the color in the auction?

My refund policy is, I'll refund for any reason whatsoever, provided the item is returned to me at buyer's expense and is the same as when I sent it out. I DON'T make partial refunds.

Thank you, Ms. Lucy, you'll receive your usual payment for mentioning my name.

I looked at the auction in question and now *I* am confused. All the pictures except the last show the purse as a rich dark brown. What seals the deal for me is that the Item Specifics also says it is dark brown. If I bought this bag, I would be expecting it to be dark brown. Logical, no?

The last picture makes it look like either 1) a yucky dark gray or 2) the lighting for the photo was poor. Given that the lighting for most of your other pictures was less than optimal, I can understand the confusion.

One last note that has nothing to do with this buyer's beef: You have a Coach bag, still new, that was made in the U.S. That's a major selling point to people like me, since I refuse to pay hundreds of dollars for a bag made in China, I don't care what the leather tag says. Play up that angle when you relist it. And make better pictures.

I'd have to agree with those who have already weighed in - because of the quality of the photos as well as the Item Specifics.

The photos were either done with flash or the light source and your camera are not in sync with each other. If you're shooting with any natural light hitting your subject and you normally take good photos with incandescent lights - it will look blue.

You can correct this by making the correct setting on your camera.

If you are going to re-take the photos and get to relist this item, you might also want to make the following corrections:

"Soft brown" - if it is indeed lighter color, be sure that ALL of your photos correctly show the color if at all possible. If any don't show it correctly, don't put them ahead of those that do.

"Interior Coach creed with serial number: FND-9303" - you'll want to make sure your Serial Number in your text matches the one in your photo.

Hope this helps.

beyondthebasicblackdress,

You might want to reshoot and colour correct your images with Photoshop, etc. Try and take your photos under natural light and make sure you have a white or neutral gray backdrop. When you have the photos on your PC you can correct the colour, brightness and contrast in your choice of photo manipulation software. Or cheat and "borrow" images from a Coach handbag website

Thank you everybody for your insight. Many of you have pointed out things that I had not noticed, such as I hadn't realized that I had checked dark brown in the item specifics. That certainly would make the buyer and all of you correct and me wrong.

I hadn't noticed that the serial #'s didn't match each other....I'm not old enough for my eyes to be going.

I had gone to the Coach website and couldn't find any bags that matched the color. I hadn't thought about doing a google image search, which I did this morning and behold, there it was...Charcole Gray.

I still have a difficult time with getting great pictures. I don't know what setting to use and obviously the lights that I use just don't get it and I find photoshop very confusing. I use Microsoft's office picture manager to edit pics.

Thank you everybody's help...you guys are so wise and I respect and appreciate your wisdom and advice. I don't usually like to put myself out here asking for help because of looking like such an amateur compared to the best....I do ship fast though...lol

I did notify the buyer to send it back for a refund.

Have a wonderful day....and many bids to you..

YUCK! I checked out the Coach website - they must be crazy! Very UGLY bags and it looks like many of the classic styles and colors have been discontinued.

I think you are wise to refund beyondetc. I think I remember a Coach color that wasn't quite brown but I wouldn't call it "charcoal gray" either - but more in the brown family than the black. Kind of like this:

Mary Ann, Coach is now marketed to the teens and twenties set. At least that's who I see mobbing the stores. You know, the same types who buy that gawdawful Juicy Couture crap. The kind of people who need to wear a rhinestone tiara spelling out "COACH" in inch-high letters.

I apologize to all and sundry if that last article was on your Christmas wish list.

You can still get some of the classic styles but you have to ask for their special catalogue to order. At Coach stores around here they keep it under the counter and out of sight lest the uncoolness of it all scares off Daddy's little darlings. And there's no point to buying them new anyway; they're made in China and the workmanship is inferior to the old goods.

Fluffy - I have to admit that my recent Coach purchases have been at outlet stores. On my last visit, the store was full of the kind of crap featured on their website. I thought that was because they weren't able to sell the stuff elsewhere. Guess not...my 20 year old daughter loves her classic coach bag (handed down to her from my sister).

Neglus,

That color swatch appears "charcoal gray" on my monitor. You see some amount of brown in there?

Have you checked your monitor settings recently? I don't mean that as a dig, but my monitor is about 3 months old and I've checked it against an 18% gray (the standard among the photog set) to be sure we're okay.

My monitor is also about 3 months old - but is a flat panel LCD - I am not sure if it's correct or not LOL I created the color from memory using IRFAN (no name). I see it as gray gray brown LOL.

Here's the mix of the color (whatever that means!):
hue = 16
sat=6
lum = 102
red=111
blue=106
green=108

How/where do you check your monitor colors?

I ask the buyer what color she thought it was, since she says she buys alot of Coach.
She thinks its more of a light olive....whoa whats a girl to do? Maybe I'll call it a mystery color or list it as mystery auction...Surprise
I can't figure out how a mystery color turned out to be such a rich brown color. I would probably keep it if it actually was the brown color.
Fluffy you said you would play up on the made in USA angle. Do you have a suggestion or example. I am not real familar with Coach and its history.
I do admit that I wasn't real impressed with what they had to offer on their web site.

maybe you might want to think of taking the pictures outside in the day light for more true color since there seems that this bag changes colors with different lighting.

I bought a Prada bag that looks black but when I am outdoors the color has a Burgundy tone to it more then black and the papers state the color as maroon. So go figure it out, I would not say this bag looks "Maroon" its like the bag that changes with light. lol

Fluffy you said you would play up on the made in USA angle. Do you have a suggestion or example. I am not real familar with Coach and its history.

Coach started small in Manhattan with all handmade leather goods. They acquired a reputation for quality among people who sought out such. Their purses were expensive but wore like iron. Styles were classic, anything but trendy.

Today Coach is owned by one of those megaconglomerate companies that also owns Frye Boots and other American brands. I love the way Coach's web page completely glosses over the fact that all goods are now made in China but prices didn't drop a penny when manufacturing was moved offshore. Coach has extremely high margins; one of their new Holiday Patchwork totes ($398) costs them about $10 to make in the land of Communism with a happy face.

Dang. I didn't answer your question.

I'd put "USA" in the title.

As for photos, we use natural-light compact fluorescents for our jewelry photo stage. Most things bigger than a coffee mug I take outside and just photograph it on my back deck or teak bench. Not elegant, but better color rendition than attempting it indoors.

I just checked the Dooney & Bourke website and they've gone the same direction with trendy crapola and high prices. Glad I used to be the Imelda Marcos of handbags (not really) - won't need another and won't be tempted to buy this ca-ca either.
