Today i spent some time showing a person how to sell on e-bay.
We choose ink-frog for him to use because it was easy and cheap. He is retired and wants to sell his watches.
So we got it all together and got an item listed.
When he sent it out to e-bay it appeared THAT instance in his my e-bay.
We were all proud of our apparent success. the item looked good and he was now on to selling.
Four hours later he gives me a call and his item can not be found on e-bay or on his own items for sale on his my e-bay.
I call ebay up and give them the facts and they tell me that it takes 8 hours for the item to be indexed. And the only way to see the item is with an item number.
if it not showing by them go to live chat and ask for for some fee rebate.
I ask her if we can plan to see any improvements with search with tonight's weekly refresh and you thought i was talking in Latin to her.
We have no problems your problems are only your's,things are peachy keene here at e-bay land.
I think that this Christmas season is over ALLREADY..
WHAT DO YOU THINK???

I listed a gorgeous sterling silver Greek Key CZ band bracelet at 1:24 pm PDT today.
It sold at 1:34 pm PDT today to a new customer.
My items are not taking 8 hours to be indexed.

WOW This is a first - not that it's unusual to take 8 hours to index - but for Ebay to admit it.

Oh no, ebay SAYS it can take up to 12 hours to get indexed - that way you can't complain when it's a "mere" 8 hours. They have always said that but it hasn't always been true> Fluffy must have a direct connection to ebay. Lately it's taken 1-2 hours to index most of my things and as many as 12 to index them all. It sucks. While my store business seems to be ok, my Core listings are dying on the vine. I have never seen it this bad.

Hmmm, as was said on another thread, they're not watching and those that are watching are not bidding and those that are bidding are not paying.......

I went to Sellathon to track the activity of this new customer.
She found the auction in question by looking at View Other Items by Seller, but first she bought three other items from me by following the cross-promotions at the bottom of each item page. Interesting. I hadn't seen anyone do that before. If it weren't for the fact they are all immediate-payment-required auctions, I'd guess she was a spree bidder.
Total purchases: four. None of them had been up for very long, but the Greek Key bracelet had only been listed for ten minutes.

Fluff
Since you are going on vacation soon maybe we could get a patch into your site and we can sell our stuff there too.
As you are know to be "outspoken" maybe they are making sure your area is working.
My major supplier of coins told me today his sales are way down.
Thru many outlets throughout the country they sell multiple millions on e-bay.
they sell the coins that many e-Bayer's sell on e-bay and other places not e-bay.
Those with web sites and mail order and TV ads are doing well and are still ordering large amounts of coins.
We e-Bayer's are like street urchins begging for some tiny crumbs to survive..
So gives us your code to get in and we can sell on your site while you are basking in some sun drenched hide away.

oh on my original post.
5 minutes after the item was indexed it got a bid.
It is a VACHERON LeCOULTRE-14k WHITE gold MYSTERY DIAL-37 DIAMONDS SIGNED VACHERON CONSTANTIN LeCOULTRE watch very rare original in mint condition.
He has 2 dozen of these in different styles.
The best thing on this delay will be that I think he will now want me to just do it for him.
Between the time it took to get the pictures, info written up, the bid and the e-bay high jinks it took a half a day to get it together.
I can get it to market a lot quicker but you only learn by doing. I use this strategy on many of my older clients. That way they can see how much it takes to sell thing on E-bay. Then they just say can't you just do it.
I will then do it in their home as I do not want to hold these items-$$$$$$$- or sell them on my account as for tax purposes these sales add uppp and they can sell them without tax worries.

Not to beat a dead horse but some items are not indexed in title and description DAYS after listing. I stumbled across a postcard lot that had a Sholem synagogue in VA postacrd in it. Wondered how common the card was before I placed my bid - searched and no results. The original listing with Sholem in the description was not found. 4+ days left until auction end.
Edited to add: 4 searches later, after placing my bid, the listing was found on search.

I have items that index instantly and others that do not show for hours. All in the same category. I think it must be whichever server the listing hits when you hit sell.
And search is still seriously screwed up. 4 auctions listed last week are still show/ no show in search. Ebay knows about the problem, will admit it if you refuse to let a tech off of the phone, might even give you refund, but they tell you to relist it first.
No skin off their xxx, I lost the gallery fee in the relist. The whole mess keeps me ticked off when I think about it but it is their ball game so what can we do?
Rhetorical question, no response required.
