I have a small, wooden tabletop chest, 11" high, with 6 small drawers. On the top of this nice piece is "Kingsley Machine Co., Hollywood, Calif." Each drawer pulls out and is wood-covered (hinged cover lifts to reveal lots of little compartments). And the cover for each drawer reads "wire holding fixtures."

I've looked at Collectibles/Advertising and don't see a likely sub-category. So in Collectibles/Tools, there are lots of sub-categories. I know nothing about this stuff! What are "wire holding fixtures"? If some smart guy would be so good as to look at the collectibles/tools categories and give me some advice, I'd be Really Grateful!

I'll post a shot or two of this item here.

For Wire Marking

Found this on ebay:

KINGSLEY-WIRE-HOLDING-FIXTURES-100S-LETTERS-NUMBERS

Category : Business & Industrial > Industrial Electrical & Test > Electrical Equipment & Tools > Electrical Tools > Other Electrical Tools

Don't forget to include the dimision of the inside of the box, ie, divider sizes. I can think of a dozen uses for this box other than its original purpose. Just send it to me <g>

I'm glad you love it! It's so cute and decorative--and I'll bet they stopped making these chests in wood a long time ago. Good idea to give the dimensions of the little compartments.

So, I like the Business categories--but I also think I need to put this in a vintage collectible category as well, and I'm still stymied on that.

Thanks for the input!

I have two of those cabinets that are full of cable markers. I use them for marking wiring harness's when I fabricate them for installation in tow trucks. I like their metal markers because they hold up to the abuse tow trucks go through and don't fall off like tape wire markers do after a couple of years. I bought them new about 2 or 3 years ago from either McMaster Carr or MSC industrial supply if memory serves correct. If you know how much you want for it let me know I would be interested in buying it. I could use a third one to keep spares in.

These cabinets are actually not wire marker parts cabinets, that's just what I use them for. They actually are cabinets for the marking dies used in their hot foil stamping machines. Each drawer holds different font and type style marking dies. Here's a full foil marking machine setup on ebay that comes with two cabinets. If you do list it on ebay the correct category would be Business & Industrial > Office, Printing & Shipping > Printing & Graphic Arts > Screen & Specialty Printing > Stamping & Embossing > Machines.

Mike: I'm going to list it on eBay because I have no idea how much I should want for it! It's the curse of the collectibles seller, LOL. I'll be glad to steer you in that direction when it's up for sale in a week or two.

This is what I love about selling in the wide world of collectibles--you learn something new almost every day. Especially in the area of "guy stuff," which women like me didn't grow up knowing about--tools and such.

Mike, if you don't mind, tell me why you think the category you suggest is better than the Business and Industrial category suggested above. The words on the drawers say "wire holding fixtures," nothing about embossing. Just curious about this and wanting your further input.

I guess I missed the "wire holding fixtures" in your original post, oops. The reason I said to use the stamping machine category was because that was the only thing I have seen them use them on. When I originally ordered my metal wire markers a couple years back I ordered my cabinets seperatly and they were actually the cabinets for the marking dies. I guess they now use the cabinets for the wire markers too. Please do give me a heads up when you post them. You can either post the auction number here or shoot me a email.

Try:

Home & Garden > Furniture > Office > File & Storage Cabinets

Since jewelry was mentioned, how about under display in collectibles, advertising (under other I think). This is probably not something anyone would be searching for so I think you're wise to pick more than one category to find browsers. Good luck!

Nice set of wooden boxes first thing I thought of was an Artist box I have about 4 of them here and they all look very simular to your boxes / cases so mention that in your description for possible uses.
