Don't Panic!

This is old news and anyway only applies to US banks and their victims... umm... customers.

Banks in other countries use more robust security and detect bouncing/counterfeit checks much sooner.

Agit - since you are one of about 5 regulars that are not from the US it actually does apply to most of the readers. Instead of saying "Don't Panic" a more appropriate statement would have been... "Don't be an Idiot".

Why should anyone have to rely on their bank to tell them something is a scam when basic common sense should be screaming it at you.

Why is gods name would anyone believe that a charitable organization is going to need a a complete stranger to clear their checks for them?
