Do I do this with ebay or Vendio? I don't want a Vendio store - just ebay, but I do all my listing with Vendio.
This is probably a really dumb question (won't be my first or last) but I have never looked into it before.
Thanks

Lady I use Vendio to list... I'm used to it... its comfortable. I opened my ebay store 2 weeks ago. I am so SO glad I did. I have had sales everyday but 1. I sell a lot of $10 to $30 things ... I have also taken some of my high dollar show merchandise that has been in a box too long and listed them into the store with a mkae an offer tag. The store has allowed me to make money on those closed auctions that were just sitting. Everyday I do some listings I don't pile them up for a once a week dump onto the market. The ones that do not sell go into the store. I am also taking things that I just don't want to spend the money on to do a regular listing and putting them directly into the store. I am working it girl! You can too!

Great to hear. So where do I go to open it?
I know Vendio supports it but do I open with ebay and just list with Vendio?
Should I start it now or wait to the 1st? I don't know if they would charge me a full month or not?

I don't use Vendio (don't list or sell enough to warrant the additional expense), so I can not speak intelligently about how to open THROUGH Vendio.

However, I would suggest that you "Set Up" your store through eBay before you try listing anything. There are a number of options to choose from, and having those options set BEFORE you try fitting your listings into them works best.

Good Luck! Hope you have MNAY great sales!

You open your store through ebay directly. Once you set it up with categories etc then you can list store items through Vendio (the first step is to import your ebay store categories). There is a box to check for "ebay store" when you choose your listing format.

The ebay stores board is very helpful with setting up the store. There are some very good "how to" threads tacked to the top.

I think the most important thing is to open the store and get things listed. Make sure you use easy to navigate categories so people can find your item. Make sure you include links to your store in all of your listings. Turn on the "store header" and "side navigation bar" to appear in all your listings. Don't worry so much about the bells and whistles of web design until later on when you are ready to fine tune.

Good luck!

I'm reading this thread with great interest, needing to open a store. Lucy offered to help me a while back, but I need all the background info I can get, first, so I don't have to ask a lot of questions.

OH GIRLS (AND SO FAR EVERYONE ON THIS THREAD IS) WHY DO I LOVE THIS AREA... WELL NEGLUS IS A BIG REASON! This gal is so smart its like she has tested the waters and learned the lessons and passes them on to all of us with clairity and grace. As I said, I opened my store BUT I did not turn on the header or side navigation bar... until 5 mins ago! The page that allows you to do that has a link for "breadcrumbs" I am going back to check that out! Sometimes when you don't know for sure and your doing something new less is more. Thank you so much gosh if I knew your address I'd bake a cake! one more time... Thanks Neglus!

WOW was that easy.
It's all opened and now for some listings. I didn't have to pick any categories?? Maybe that comes later. I take it that starting and ending times don't matter that much here?
One free month too - an ebay freebie - can't bet it.

So easy I thought I would say it twice.
I found the categories and I'm working on it now.

Good Roadsmith! Do't get overwhelmed. Best thing is just to open it up, stock it and worry about the details later.

As I said the categories are important if you have lots of different things to sell. Your store items and auctions will both appear in your store so you will start using store categories for all of your items once you set up the store.

Unless you are really into HTML or a web designer wannabe the basic store set up works. You might want to find another logo than the dufy ones provided by ebay. Once you have your name decided you can work on getting a logo. The ebay default ones are ok on a temporary basis. There are even people on the store board who LIKE to design free logos if you post - "need logo help" or something like that.

Keywords are important when you describe your store and set up categories but you can fine tune that later when you have your store stocked.

Best thing is just jump in and DO IT! Spend your time stocking your store and not putzing with the look of it. Don't get discouraged if sales don't come right away..it may take awhile.

Bj - you are ahead of me! I haven't turned on the side bar yet because I have to revise all of of my categories now that ebay allows 300!!

Ladyj - I think you need to set up categories or all of your items will appear under
other" and you will want to sort them in some kind of order so it's easier for buyers to find them (more important as you get more items but best to start out right).

Neglus,

The side bar only allows 30 categories to show and no sub categories. I turned mine on after I found out that it works OK with my template. Others liek Pat are having problems. I am still waiting Vendio to support the change in categories until I do mine.

ANY ONE WHO DOES AUCTIONS ON EBAY SHOULD DO A STORE ALSO.

Now is a good time to start setting one up.

Bill - You can still go into ebay on the myEbay edit feature and switch over all of your exiting store items. No need to wait for Vendio.

There is no photo in gallery view - is this something I need set?
I did a relist and switched it to my store. I'll try a new one and see what it looks like.

lady - did you list with Vendio? You need to check the gallery box to include gallery. It can take ebay awhile to get the galleries indexed - they usually have some kind of placeholder where the gallery should be. If you forgot to add gallery you will see the camera icon to indicate listing has a picture. You can easily add a gallery by revising your item.

When you relist through Vendio you have to change format to store, set the term (30 or GTC), select a category and attach a gallery if you want to use one. This can't be done on bulk relister in SMME.

I have over 30 categories and if Vendio is not set up they will not list proper. That is what I am waiting for. I know I can switch them in eBay but I have over 1,000 items right now and a lot more to list. It will be a while until I get them all set up the way I wan't.

I thought Vendio was set up. I added a subcategory just for fun, refreshed my eBay store categories in Vendio ( an important step) and I can see the subcategory when I list.

toasted - I am currently running a featured store as an experiment. I have done this several times over the past year - I still can't see if this helps sales or not. I haven't used the free keywords (that seemes to be the BEST reason to use the featured store)- they claim that featured store listings get better placement but I don't think this is true on MOST of the pages buyers look at. My store sales have been good but, from the sounds of it, so have everybody's.

Until you are running your store at a profit I wouldn't go featured.

I've been trying to figure out where the "special" placement is for a featured store. When you go to an auction and it has a list of stores on the side the ones with the most items that you are searching for or looking at are the ones that show up there.

Thanks neglus...I was hoping the basic was showing up the searches now.I've been thinking about re-opening my store .I only had it about two months when they raised the fees from 9.95 to 15.95. I dropped it like a hot potato cause no one ever saw the store in searches . It just seemed like a waste of money then. I was only putting unsold items in it or stuff that wasn't worth listing in the first place like gently used clothes.I saved my logos and all so it shouldn't be to hard to open back up.

So far so good.
I got the gallery now and I edited to get the category.
My auctions are showing in my store now but they are all under other. That doesn't really brother me that much but is there a way to show them by category?

neglus - thanks for the help. It didn't make much sense when I was starting but now it does.
I still don't see my header anywhere and I know I turned it on but maybe I'm just looking in the wrong place

The store header should show under
Seller Manage Store ->Listing frame->Custom Listing Frame Features-> Show my Store listing header in my listings

It will then appear on top of all of your listings (that's why you may not want to use the default ebay logos - they're kind of ugly)

Once you get your items in categories you might want to turn on the display of the left side navigation bar (this will appear in all of your listings and is a link to all of your store items by category). To do this you go to the same place and choose the " Show my Store listing header and left-navigation bar in my listings" option.

All of the items listed BEFORE you set up your store will not have a store category selected and will show in "other". You can select a store category (after you update with Vendio) when you list new items or relist unsolds.

If you listed store items through Vendio and did not update categories then they will appear as "other" too. Store categories should be selected even when you list items in other formats so they are sorted properly.

O.K. Stores sound so good now I will try it again! I, too, dropped the store when it changed to $15.95 because I wasn't selling that much. However all my local eBayers tell me I really should try it again. I guess that is how they have 500-700 listings. My problem is since all my stuff is one-of-a-kind and sometimes bulky I will have a tough time storing a lot of things and finding them again! I will rearrange my shipping room first and add some more shelves that I can designate for store items only. I need to spring clean anyway! (grin)

Is it advisable to list Ebay store items directly through Vendio and therefore have to pay their listing fees or to list directly on Ebay? I understand that the photos stored with Vendio can be used at no charge even if the Ebay ad is not generated through Vendio. Any ideas? Thanks

Stores may not be for everybody but it is a heck of lot better than sitting on a lot of unsold merchandise and paying regular listing fees over and over again. You just never know when things will sell - you can go for days without store sales and then have a ton in one day (last night someone bought 36 of my postcards in one fell swoop). It's kind of hard to plan an income stream! I used to figure that store sales were "bonus" but now that they are more than 50% of my total sales I really have to rethink the business plan!

Good morning, All...

Dorrie
You ask a good question! I'm not a major seller and can not afford the additional expenses of Vendio. Therefore, I use the "Basic" Store on eBay and an image host service (@ $8.95 month) and include the pictures using URLs in my HTML text.

Fenix
Thanks for the link! Your listings are great and VERY classy! Nice work! I'm going to play around with it!

Someone else on this board (different thread) suggested using the Breadcrumb for my categories, as my template was not compatible with the new sidebar categories. It works for now! It will take some experiementing to create a new template that I am pleased with and that fits the new store system.

Special thanks to all who have made suggestions concerning my problem...and the many ideas I've gotten from those of you who share your knowledge so generously with others as well. I'd be lost without my daily visit to the AW Community!

Pat
