Whew. we're one of those last minute filers this year - due to a late piece of vital tax stuff. Our tax preparer is in another state and we've been emailing stuff back and forth for a week. I had no idea that she can E-file for us with form 8879 and we don't even have to sign it! We can authorize her to use a pin number we pick out and she uses that as our signature.
Will wonders never cease?

I think ours is $100.00
I'm just glad I don't have to do it!! That was the one point I put my little foot down.
It's ok if you file a 1040A but a 1040? Nope - I don't want the responsibility.
AND we were audited this year!

I had mine done in February. After I got my refund i got a letter from the IRS stating that there was a mistake made in my filers error (based on my Earned Income Credit) that cost me $1500. Now I have to pay back the IRS $50 a month until the stupid thing is paid off.
I'll be going somewhere else next year.

I ended up getting $200 back, but that's because I also have a job that takes taxes out. My taxes were done and in by the end of January. Yea! OTOH, Ken is still working on his. LOL! He does this every year. He make a pilgrimage to the PO at 11:45 p.m. every April 15th.

Taxes? What taxes? I thought the only taxes in this country were on tobacco, gas and liquor. Is there some other kind of tax we're supposed to be paying also?

sparkz has it right! Repeal Income Tax back to pre 1919 levels like Teddy promised once the Great War debt was paid off.

Well, our illustrious grade "F" governor is lowering personal income taxes or at least he's trying to. Ohio has high taxes, too. What I want to know is how can you justify lowering personal income taxes in a state that is in the sh*t hole financially and do it in part by cutting disability, medical benefits and education? He says it will stimulate the economy? HUH? I thought jobs stimulated the economy. Now, we have this bill going into effect on May 2nd that he signed about auctioneers. We're still not clear on it. Does it or does it not include eBay sellers? Depends on who you ask. Some say "yes", some say "no". Some say, "it depends". At any rate, who has $50,000 to post bond? It definately applies to Trading Assistants. This state sucks and I can't wait to be able to leave it.

IMO, technically, eBay is the auctioneer. We are giving them items for auction for us (and paying them to do it).

I just got clarification from the Dept of Agriculture which is in charge of auctioneers. It will apply to Trading Assts. and to anyone buying new items to resell unless they are selling at a fixed price. All my auctions will have to be changed to a fixed price format since I sell new items. Here is her response:
There is a lot of confusing information out there; hopefully, I will be able to clear things up for you. If you are selling on eBay for a fixed price, it would not require an auctioneer license. If you are selling your own personal property purchased without the intent to resell via eBay auction, you would not have to have an auctioneer license.
SB 209 which goes into effect on May 6, 2005 was inadvertently written so that anyone who is selling (via the internet which would include eBay auctions) property that was purchased with the intent to resell would have to get an auctioneer license. The intent of the legislation was to require those individuals who have auction drop off sites who are actively taking consignments from the public and who are selling the public’s property via internet auction to get an auction firm license.
SB 99 which is currently before the House has an emergency clause in it which will allow it to go into effect at the same time as SB 209. If passed, SB 99 will exempt anyone who is selling on the internet regardless of whether or not they are selling their own property or not from having to be licensed under Chapter 4707 of the Ohio Revised Code. You can look at SB 99 on the web at the following address: http://www.legislature.state.oh.us/bills.cfm?ID=126_SB_99. Once you are on LSC’s web page you can track the progress of the bill by clicking status report of legislation.

I sent my check to IRS yesterday. I had to pay $118.00 which wasn't too bad.
