I'm confused.
One of my main competitors emailed me this morning. She did the ASQ on an item I sell that she also sells but she sells way more of this particular pattern than I do. The seller ID has low feedback, not her normal one. I know her real name though from her other auctions and by looking at the other auctions and this one I connected the 2 ID's.
So why was she emailing me asking me about an item she has and sells (sells more than I do)?
I don't bother my competition. I'm busy enough with my own stuff that I don't need to pester someone else.

She asked me a simple question about what is on the fabric - a question you can answer by looking at the picture and that she can answer on her own by looking at her own stuff since she sells it too.
I'm really confused by the whole thing!

I think they call that phishing. I wouldn't answer her/him.

I have no idea what she could have possibly wanted. I'm not going to answer her but I continue to sit here and try to figure out why she'd email and nothing. can't come up with it. If it would have been about something she didn't have or sell herself maybe it would make more sense but it's one of her bigger sellers so I have no idea.

I would answer and see what happens. Perhaps they are trying to try to purchase off ebay, and turn you in and have you thrown off?

They are probaly hoping you will make them an offer to buy the item off ebay and turn you in.

Do you think she is trying to bait you?
Since it was a secondary account and not her main one does she think you don't know it is her?

I would guess she is trying to find out your name or email address, or other product info. Most likely to do a google search to try to find out any business connections you may have (wholesellers/business to buy product from, etc).

I wouldn't be confused or concerned. Your competitor is likely just curious about the way you answer e-mails. Are you courteous or rude or straightforward, friendly or businesslike.....that sort of thing. The competitor may also be sending e-mails to all his/her competing sellers, to see if any do offer an off Ebay sale, or some other infraction.
.
.
.I would definitely answer the e-mail. And I would make the response as courteous and overly looooong as I possibly could. The competitor is looking to increase their sales, and they then may think that loooong, personal, courteous e-mails is an advantage.

Maybe she received the same question from a bidder and didn't know how to answer it. So she asked you the same question.

Is she the same seller that wanted to know where you got your fabric from?

No she's not the same seller.
She wanted to know what was written on the fabric. I just dont get why she watned to know when she could whip out her own fabric and see. It's the exact same thing.
I haven't answered yet. I dont know if I will.
I've just never had this happen before. Now I'll feel like she's stalking my auctions. She's obviously doing soemthign I'm not since she's a powerseller with not so great feedback and I miss PS every month by a couple hundred dollars (but have great feedback).
So..beats me.

Maybe she wants to varify if you are selling the same exact item as her.
Maybe you should ASQ her and ask what is writen on her fabric...

I think she just wants your e-mail address. I know of people who've asked nonsense questions for that purpose.
I wouldn't respond. Whatever she wants, she's not being totally honest if she's pretending to be just your average bidder. It's not possible that responding can benefit you in any way, so why risk it?
