So I posted a couple weeks ago about this item I have that is relatively hot (albeit not expensive) for me. I listed a single piece of this item last week on auction and for what the item is and what they normally go for the auction is doing really well.
I have gotten a TON of emails "Where do you get this fabric" in the past week...drives me crazy.
This morning I get this one:
Hi. This fabric is great. However your auction is too expensive for me to buy from you. SO I need you to tell me where to buy this fabric so I can get it cheap. I need the manufacturer, the brand, the SKU and the outlet in which you bought it.
Thanks.
Are they friggen kidding me?
I deleted it.

You have to put your "Sense of Humor Hat" on and let loose! Politely give them information that will have them running all over town, calling, etc. --- Show them how hard it was to find -- Then they might assign more "value" to the cost of the item from you !
Send them on a wild goose chase and, just so you can enjoy it more, have them let you know what they find and if they need more "help" -- "Just ask."
Then, when they write back, give them other ideas for locating it... Just make sure it's in the opposite direction from where it really might be...
Oh, the fun that could be had!

Glad you deleted it - maybe you should block her too just in case....
I got am ASAQ - no auction # attached : "I really like this photo. I am not a postcard collector. Can you just send it an envelope for 37 cents?"
I amswered politely that I didn't know which item they were referring to but I only shipped my way for my s/h fee.
Got an answer back: "You stupid witch".....
There was no user name or I would have blocked (maybe there was with the first ASAQ but they replied to my answer and it is gone now)...Wish I would have just deleted the first one.

Helga - just start messing with them. Tell one that you bought it at an estate sale, another that you bought it while on vacation in Thailand.... use your imagination and have a little fun

If it's really "common" sense, why do so few people actually have it?

Hi Helga,
Tell them that your wholesale sources or supplier list for your fabric is part of the value of your total business but you are willing to disclose it for a fee..... such as $1000 or even $10,000.
Since they already think your auction item is too expensive it's doubtful they want to pay but may now see your items as having more value.

You get some good ones, that is for sure.
Like neglus, I get ones about shipping. A guy emails me and wants to know if I can ship the ad he just bought media mail for a dollar. I have all my shipping costs on the auction page as well as a picture of the envelope they will receive.
You could have some fun with this one Helga.

Tell'em you got it at the Pomona Swap Meet. Some guy named Jack has a truck load of the stuff dirt cheap. Suggest they get there early, cause there's gonna be a big crowd at his space.

ROFL Sparkz! I think you hit the nail on the head!
I just keep thinking of the old line - "I can tell you - but then I'd have to kill you."
Go ahead Helga - you write your own script. All of life is a play! You get to be the director - the screenwriter AND the star of the show.

Of course, there's the old standby. Give them the name, address, phone number and email address of your favorite NPB and tell them that is your source. You might mention they work the swing shift and are only available for phone calls between midnight and 4:00 a.m.

I am so afraid to be rude guys, really. I'm not like that anyways so even thinking about it makes me feel bad.
But I can't imagine that these people think I'm really going to tell them the length and extent I went to get this fabric. I mean I called all over several states, drove several hours, etc. I did a LOT to fidn what i have and I'm not going to just dish out the information.
I was just gone for 3 hours to do a fundrasier for my daughters trip this summer and I came home to 3 more emails asking where do I find this at?
How about my auction? you can see it plain and simple that I have it for auction!!!

I GOT IT!
Run an auction for the information as to how you got the fabric. The Reserve price can be REALLY HIGH!
OTOH - maybe you should just put upfront in your auction "Please don't email & ask where I got this material...."

OMG Glassgrl that would be hilarious. I bet I could make some cash on that reserve auction lol.
Would it be rude to put in the auction to not email me and ask me? If it's that important for them to find it why can't they do the research themselvs and see if they can find it? I sure put a lot of time and effort into finding it. I also think I bought everything available in my state so....

How about stating that the winning bidder will also get information about the item (manufacturer, the brand, the SKU and/or the outlet).

Meowmix, I'm not making a fortune from the fabric or items I sell with what I make from it but I'm literally bombarded with emails asking where to buy it at.
I have a particular breast cancer awareness fabric that I use that I can't find anywhere anymore EXCEPT eBay and I don't bug and pester those people asking them where they buy it at. I just buy it on eBay when I see it.

By the way All of my eBay proceeds are right now going towards helping pay for my daughters trip to Nationals this summer so if anyone is so inclined....feel free to BIN any number of my items that you'd like ;o) This is a big, important trip for her (and mom!)

Helga -- I would bet that these are sellers that are using their buyer's ID to try to extract the information from you. I would not reveal the source -- no how no way! But, you could have a little bit of fun as suggested by others! I love all of the suggestions here! C'mon, Helga, have a little fun!

Offer to sell the info to them. $5,000 should cover your expenses and time in gathering the information.

Apparently these people asking that question are not looking too hard. I just did a Google search and found out the maker, where it could be purchased and if it is still being made.
Helga, do you actually do all the crafting yourself? Where do you find the time to make it and also have 300+ auctions going?
By the way, congrats on hitting 1000!
I'm just 3 away from my 1000 - and I've been selling since 1998! I'm lucky if I can get 20 items on a week, but I also own two businesses, so I guess you could say this is just a money-producing hobby for me.

I'm taking a quick break from listing and picture taking.
I've got to do something with my house ~ this is crazy. I feel like I haven't cleaned in a week!
cta all of my listings aren't auctions ~ many of them are store items. I make all of my stuff myself ~ I do it late at night or early in the a.m. since right now I rarely have a day off.
I'm a big fan of the relist button since I make everything and don't have to do new listings all the time. That makes it easier.
Quick break and back to listing. I feel burned out but since I'm home and have a couple hours I want to list what I can

Hi Helga
Congratulations on 1000. Your auctions look great and I know you have worked very hard for that star.
You may want to take another look at the Dalmatian auction. You have it spelled with an o. Dog lovers search by breed and will buy almost anything with their dog on it. Change that o to an a and you may get some more sells.
Good Luck
