This post relates to an earlier post of mine. Is there a way to keep people from using their credit cards to pay for item via paypal?
Has anyone done this and what was the results??
How many of our payments are actually made with a credit card?? Does your number of payments drop much as a result of doing this??
Will nixing CC payments effect our standing with PP in any way??
Does it need to be stated in auction?
I am trying to avoid future chargebacks. I had my first in about 4 years. Ticks me off but wondering if not allowing buyers to use their CC would cause more trouble than good.
Although fognit will yack, there is always a good rule to follow when dealing with yer buyers: KISS
If ya make PP too complicated, ya risk alienating yer buyers, losing business, growing bald & fat -- maybe even becoming a Repug!!
Tis much simpler just to DUMP it or EMBRACE it...
PayPal works great, except for when it DOESN'T work great -- then ya stand a chance of losing yer shirt.
You can cut down on the risk somewhat by following the SPP to the letter -- but it won't eliminate risk from cc cb's 100%.
OTOH, tis important to remember why folks use PP to begin with -- so they can EASILY pay you with a credit card! I'm guessing that the VAST majority of payers are doing the CC thingy...
As far as restricting to NON-CC payments only, I'm pretty sure you have to change to a PERSONAL ACCOUNT in order to do that (I could be wrong) and that opens up a whole new can of GWB's right there.
Ralphie's rule is pretty KISS:
"Don't accept a PayPal payment for more than you can afford to EAT..."
PP SAYS:
Why aren't credit card payments accepted for PayPal Personal Accounts?
Credit card payments are only allowed for PayPal Premier and Business Account holders. This policy helps reduce the costs associated with credit card processing. Premier and Business Accounts pay a nominal fee for each payment received in return for access to premium features such as the ability to accept credit card payments, listing management services, and PayPal's Seller Tools.
Personal accounts are allowed to accept non-credit card funded payments, however, limits may apply to certain payment types.

One problem in 4000+ transactions?? I'd say that PP must be working pretty well for you and wouldn't change a thing unless you see a TREND of problems such as this.
I think you would have to downgrade to a personal account to not accept CC pymts - and as I recall, the $ amt you can receive under a personal acct is restricted (somebody correct me if I am wrong please). I personally think the more "do's and don'ts" you add to listings the more buyers you turn away. Sounds like you have been doing well with things as they are - I wouldn't change a thing.

I don't think you can tell - but you can restrict your PP account to ONLY accept cash payments by using a personal (not business) account.

Camo, I tried doing PP without CC, but it is too much of a hassel to deal with the customers who don't read your TOS. They will still try to pay with CC, PP will still ask you if you want to accept CC. If you don't, you have to respond and deny payment.
My PP payments run about 50% CC payments. It just isn't worth my time to try and talk those 50% into using a cash payment. I consider the PP fee for CC cheap compared to the hours I would be spending dealing with checks, MO and settin customers straight about what a personal PP account is all about.
As for the possibility of charge backs, 1 in 4000 is not such a bad ratio. If it is too high for you , then listen to Ralphie and only accept PP for amounts you are willing to lose.

Get a merchant account. At work, we only accept credit card payments through our merchant account. 75% of our payments are via the credit card through that account. So much so that we are considering dropping PayPal all together as a payment option. PayPal has burned us in the past and with no true sellers protection, it is harder to accept them, especially for the fees that they charge.
