I have a Seabiscuit book and I can't understand the numbers. It is not stated first edition but it does have the number C98
on it. Is there somewhere where is explains the numbers. It does have a ISBN #. Thanks all I will be waiting.

Libra, each publisher has different criteria for first editions. Even then it might only be the first edition thus (by that publisher, or in that form).
Who is the publisher? What's the date? It can get pretty esoteric, especially if there are points of issue.
email me at literaryjazz at sbcglobal.net
and I'll look it up for you -- if I can help from my limited library, that is.

cta, that site only tells you the WAY publishers distinguish a first.
Each publisher is different and one must know which way that particular publisher
denotes a first.
Ex: Random House uses a string of numbers -- however, unlike most publishers -- a first edition by RH will never contain the number one.
It also changes from certain periods of time. The only way to know is to buy a few First Edition Guides. Even then, one must determine if the book was published previously by a another press. (Especially, a private one.)

I just sent you an email with the name, author, who published the book, ISBN number and that pesky little number C98.
That site above didn't help as it say random house starts their numbers with 23456789 and there is nothing in this book that looks like that.
