My scanner has suddenly developed a hazy area right where I put the items I want to scan. This is on the bottom of the glass where I can't clean.
Anyone know how to open a scanner to clean the under portion of the glass? I see screws holding the bottom on, but you can't see them from the bottom of my scanner.

Go to the manufacturers website and they will probably have cleaning tips...

Wish it were that easy.
It's an Epson 2450 and takes great scans. But, the troubleshooting guide online tells you nothing about cleaning the underside of the glass.
And, to get to tech support you have to include everything you ever didn't know about your computer, like: what kind of sound card do I have (why would that matter for a scanner?), what kind of this and that for about 2 1/2 pages before you can even submit your question.

On my HP, there are 4 screws to remove the the top lifts off with the glass attached.

I have looked everywhere for any signs of screws on this one. I think they must be hidden under some panel.
Anyone have the Epson 2450?
I'm not sure if it is moisture buildup or not. My old cheaper Visioneer did the same thing, but I just ignored it and moved the items around to scan. This one has a built-in auto mode that does all the work for me if I place the postcard in one corner, which of course, is the corner I need to clean. No cropping etc.

Hi
Don't know how to fix this but I put an extra piece of glass on my scanner to protect
the glass. If you get your's fixed maybe you will want to try this in the future.
Good luck

What do you mean an "extra" piece of glass?
I found an article online about opening the 2450 so I am off to try but will wait to see what exactly what you did before I try it.
Thanks

Actually the web article told me two little screws holding the transparency adapter on would release the top portion including the glass, but it doesn't so I am back to square one

I just took an old picture frame and tossed the frame. I lay the glass over the scanner bed to protect the glass - I used my scanner for jewelry mostly so I didn't want to scratch it but it may help with your problem too - just a idea.
Thanks

Thanks ladyjewels,
That's a good idea. The old postcards have so many little flecks of paper and dust on them that using another glass will save wear and tear on the scanner glass. Plus, I bet the other one will be a lot easier to clean
I did get the panel off and cleaned it but I kept leaving more dust than I was taking out. It took me forever but finally no more stains, or haze.
