Anybody have thoughts if eBay will have a pre-holiday FLD? I know they usually have one sometime after Christmas but I can't remember is they have one before.

Look for it on December 18th- that's my vote. You sasw it here first!
That's not to say they wouldn't do a FLD for stores or fixed price or something earlier than that. But not a "general" FLD until the usual time.

Normally they do it the Thursday just before Christmas. This year, Thursday IS on Christmas, so I'm guessing it will be the week before. They always do Thursday so they can get the extra fee for a ten day auction.
No one is going to list ON christmas, and it's not so good to have the listings end on Christmas either. It's just a sucky calendar this year.

December 26th is another favorite since the ending of the traditional 7 day is New Years Day, another traditionally slow day.

I guess I have never seen what the big deal of a FLD is - I mean if I list 300 items, that saves me $90 - Which is nice, but that is way more than I usually list, and chances are people are saving the really low priced items to list on these days. They probably won't bring in too much, and just aren't worth the work in my opinion. I also believe that FLD are done at times that would normally be slow, which makes sense. I suppose I would list if it were convenient for me, but I am not going to be here holding stuff to list on a day that may or may not come...

I will be listing around 1200 items this year if they have the FLD. I usually run about 200 a week. But, I save all my items that didn't sell first or second try for FLD and usually run the same 25% on them since they have been in hidding for a few months and a whole new audience is out there.
That will save me $360 which is substantial. I know others who list double and triple that amount every week so it does save them as well even on their new listings.
Actually, about 300 of those are items that list for $19.95 so I will save $420.

I would like to see eBay quit offering FLD's or limit it to items with a starting bid of $50.00
and up FLD's are trash magnets.

My guess is that this is the year ebay stops the Christmas FLD. No longer necessary may be what they say in their board meetings.

Well then they win the "Scrooge" award in my book! I am not going to waste time and energy dreaming and planning for a FLD but will certainly try to crank out the listings from my unsold inventory should one be announced.
I probably won't relist after mid-November so I have a good supply of inventory ready to list with little effort and without notice.

Actually, I do better or as good on FLD's as on regular days. I just can't afford to slap out that many items and take a chance.
For those who keep saying the free listing days clutter up categories and hurt your sales, or that you do not do well during them, maybe it is what you are offering and not the competition.
I have been listing on them since 1998 and have had great success every year. And, I don't waste the extra dime on 10 days. I do OK with the standard 7. I have never had a problem with Thursday or any other day for ending my listings.

Maybe they will throw out a FLD for the new one day listings! I'll have to keep my eye out. I don't think my items will do well with that format, but I would never miss an opportunity to find out.

what do we get out of FLD??
number of listings increase tenfold,but the number of bidders stay the same??
a better strategy is to list after FLD

If it was not for FLD there would be hundreds of people who would not list and hundreds who would not buy. I know of people that do not even look at ebay any more because of the poor quality of items sold. But when FLD comes they check the listing for special items and bargins. I have basically quit listing on ebay because of the high fees but I list all my items on FLD once or twice a year and save hundreds of dollars in fees. If they quite FLD altogether then they cut off hope for many people to buy and sell.

Why does everyone thing eBay or anyone else owes them a free listing or anything free.
Free listing sucks. All I hear from people any more is Gimmie Free. You get what you pay for. So if you don't pay s--t You don't get s--t in return. Pay Your Dues and move on.

Otherwise, Ebay wouldn't have over 5 million items listed every FLD.
And, let me shout this so you will hear, I REALLY DO HAVE A HIGHER SELL THROUGH RATE ON FLD'S THAN ON REGULAR ONES!
Maybe it is just because everyone is ready to spend their Christmas money, or have after holiday blues, but I LOVE THEM! And, I am not alone.

Since ebay has already posted that they will have a FLD on Dec.26 , I see no reason why thay would offer another the week before Christmas or at any other time. It would be out of character.

I think FLD works well for the ones who sell coins, postcards and some paper items that they may have to list several times before getting bids on them.
Perhaps it would be a great time to list those school yearbooks also as I hear there is a HUGE demand for them.

I actually did quite well on FLD last year. But the thing to remember is that Ebay will not have a FLD because they want to help the buyers or sellers. Ebay will have a FLD when it suits their business plan, which usually means they want to finish off the 4th quarter with a lot of listings on the books. The first free listings (3,5,and 7 days)will end before midnight Dec 31st. to provide a sudden infusion of FVF's into their coffers. Then, they can write a very rosy Q4 report to the stockholders. Why do you suppose Ebay survived the dot.com meltdown and actually grew while everyone else was lined up to file for Chapter 7 ? Not by giving the store away and trying to attract sellers who are too cheap to part with 30 cents. They did it by scheduling strategic promotions that helped their bottom line. When it is no longer advantageous to them to continue this strategy, you can kiss FLD goodby.
The light at the end of the tunnel will turn out to be an oncoming train.
