I'm pretty sure that's Donny Rumsfield inspecting Iraqi WMD's!

Looks like Dr. Doolittle just castrated King Kong?

I have no idea, but it's possible they did get marsh reeds and things, then stack them on higher points in the marshes? I'm sure someone will know.

If I were stymied, I'd send the picture to the Salisbury chamber of commerce and ask. Or google any historical society in Salisbury and ask them. I'll be they'd know.

I've gotten some good help lately from chambers of commerce who referred me to the right people in their cities.

neglus, I dont what was more humorous the postcard or the replies you got!! lol

roadsmith, some of the chambers help you; others can be bothered. I emailed one in texas and asked about a company that went out of business somewhere after the fifties. You know what they replied back to me? 'That company isnt there anymore.' Well, duh!!

(got me so mad)

LOL Tom!!

BINGO LUCY!! Thanks so much for the link! Thanks all for the suggestions - so it IS haying!! Guess we Midwesterners have the North 40 while back East they are making hay in swamps! Going to go try to revise that listing before it launches!

Martha Stewart would always talk about getting salt marsh straw or hay to spread on your garden this time of year - supposedly it does not contain weed seeds like our midwestern oat straw. I never had the foggiest what she was talking about - but your post card must depict what salt marsh hay is.. do ya think???

Salt hay is mainly used for mulch now a days.
I've been aware of it all my life, but never knew where it came from.

Thanks for the lesson.
