Gotta be a high reserve. They guy may just be fishing for an estimate to the value of his collection. He's gotta want at least $3 per pin?

Sorry, I know a guy who does this for a business. Generally, if it is a NICE collection, $9 or $10 a pin is not out of line. That would be for a long time waitress who has a lot of staff pins (they are rarer and generally quite valuable). A collection of mostly Bought pins (such as this) would be a bargain at $5 or $6 a pin.

$100 shipping... do the pins really weigh that much? I know it's alot of pins... but I can't imagine how much weight that would be for $100 shipping.

Bomber Jacket or not, $100 is excessive shipping. I can send a 55 lb package from Cleveland, OH to California Priority Mail for under $100. And 70 lb Parcel Post for less than $50.

If a buyer is willing to pay $1,500 or $2,000 or more for a huge collection of rare pins they will not care about a $100 s/h fee. Almost every HardRock pin that I've seen has a bit of heft to it and I can imagine that many pins and a heavy leather jacket and insurance costing a lot of money in s/h fees.
Edited to add the auction is now over at an unmet reserve of about $1 per pin. The pins had to be worth at least $3 per pin. Was it because it was a reserve auction? ebay is getting bad for collectibles? A crappy economy? Why did it draw such a low final bid?

I think it was a bit overwhelming even for a true blue hard rock pin collector.
Half the fun of getting those things, is.. well, getting them! <Collecting is a odd hobby like that, isnt it?>
But I agree when you're blowing a grand, whats a hundred on shipping even tho it could be excessive. They probably are heaver than imagined. And figure if you bought 10 each at $5 s/h, which is normal.......

I have always figured that a lot of these collections that are put up for auction are merely a guy trying to see what his collection might fetch on ebay. The bidders might feel like they were being used or duped and not want to go along.
