Hello, just curious as to your strategy for non selling items. How many times do you relist before ditching? Do you try different days to list, etc?

thanks!Brigitte

I only relist once and then I get rid of it. If it is a good piece I take to my mother's shows

Once. Then I double check the number of hits item recieved. If low check ad wording, pricing. Is the discription clear? shipping & payment understandable? Is my TOS friendly? Ask Q's would the thing do better in a seasonal setting? is it over priced or underpriced? If positions were reversed would I want this thing? Would be I willing to pay X dollars for it or can I get it cheaper at walmart? Whats the profit margin? Is relisting going be worth my time effort?

happy, I usually relist twice and then I am done with it.

Amazingly enough though, had two things I did Thrice and they finally sold, so....who knows! But I kinda figured my timing (seasonal wise) was off for those items!

I relist once (and usually sell then!). But before relisting I monkey a lot with the title, price, wording, pictures if necessary, other elements. Sometimes I relist that same night, sometimes I wait a week or a month or longer, depending on what the item is.

If the relist doesn't sell, I usually donate to the thrift shop.

Usually, one relist from me, then it goes to garage sale. That is not the case with everything, especially something really expensive, I might reduce the opening bid and relist again.

Relist once then stash it away for free or half price listing days. Then I list it once more if necessary after that. I have only had a handful of items not sell by the 4th listing if they are spread out far enough. But, with postcards and lps you just have to find that one person who is looking for it.

Edited to add: Your work is done once the ad is made. Unless you know it will never sell I would rather list it one last time for a couple of bucks then just toss all the work I have in it. But, I usually raise my price by $1 for the 3rd and subsequent listings to pay for the extra fees. It works for me [ edited by lindajean on Sep 13, 2003 11:03 PM ]

I relist once except for know sellers in the past. Sometimes it is just a slow period for selling.

Then I put them on yahoo and do quite well.

I only relist certain items. Most the time I sell the item some place else besides E-Bay.

Unlike most others here, I relist twice. My sellthrough rates are approximately this: out of 100 items I will sell 65 on original listing, 15 on 1st relist, 6 on 2nd relist. It is definitely worth it.

I sell books and CDs, mostly under $10.

How many times do you relist before ditching?

Never. Anything that doesn't sell the first time gets blown out at liquidation.

But then, when I look at a piece of inventory, I don't see the actual piece; I see the money I've got tied up in it plus profit that I can't touch until I sell it.

More inventory turns = more profit.

I have to add something here: I have been hugely and pleasantly surprised at how well my relists are doing! Last week I sold some relists I couldn't get a $3.95 bid on, for $28.00 (sold the two items together), and other good sales of relists.

Last night I immediately relisted several things that hadn't sold earlier in the evening, and some have already got bids. Go figure. There's just no accounting for this!

I must say, though, that I'm getting some really good prices for my auction items this month. It's encouraging. Made over $500 last night on 18 items (out of 30 listed--60% sell through)--and for me that's good money. I thought most of them were little losers. Wrong. And very happy to be wrong!
