I ordered something for the very first time on ebay. I was exclusively a seller but decided that there was something that I needed so I made my very first ebay purchase. Well, let's just say that I'm a little ticked. The package came today and it was in a Priority Mail box but the postage stated Media Mail. Can you use Priority Mail supplies to ship Media Mail?

No, you aren't supposed to do that.
In theory, you could turn him in to the PO and he could face a lifetime in prison with a cellmate named Bubba. But it's not likely that anyone would care.
If the PO accepted it and delivered it, why should YOU care?

I was suprised to hear that someone was selling but not buying up until now. How can you possibly sell and never buy on ebay. I try and support other sellers anytime I can by buying on ebay.

The auction did not say how the package would be shipped, it just stated the shipping charge.
I do not buy on ebay because, as a general rule, I do not buy things. I save my money and splurge on nice clothes and shoes in the spring and summer. I do not buy anything to wear unless I can try it on first.
The package was shipped using Endicia (which is a great service)
However, if the package were taken to the Post Office, there is no way the clerk would have allowed the package to go at media rate using a Priority Box. I think the seller is abusing the system.

Did the sellers terms state that they ship via priority mail? Did you pay for this class of shipping? Did you ask beforehand? If you did, then and only then do you have a complaint.
Item showed up in good shape? Whats the beef then? They should not use these boxes for media, but the odds of them going to jail for life over this is zero odds!

If it came in a timely manner, then I wouldn't worry about it.
If the seller uses an internet postage outfit like Stamps.com, her/she could've made an error.
I've done something similar to that (but it cost me money!) in the past.
And no, you're not supposed to use those supplies for anything other than Priority Mail. I have to tell you, I have received more than one package where the box has been turned inside out...

No, you are not supposed to use Priority boxes to ship any other way. But, I don't care how it gets to me. Let me tell you, I will NEVER complain about shipping charges ever, ever again when it pertains to Ebay. I bought a necklace from another site. The necklace was coming from another country. Had I bothered to check down further, I would have seen that shipping for this one teeny, tiny, itsy, bitsy necklace was $16 - slow poke mail - over five times the cost of the necklace! It took three weeks to get here. So, I wouldn't complain if your item arrived in good condition and in a timely manner. In fact, I'd rejoice. I'm still waiting after almost three weeks for the arrival of a package from an Ebay seller.

There are a lot of things to worry about, but worrying about someone mis-using a priority mail box for a different rate seems pretty far down on my list.

I was in line at the Post Office last week and the clerk told a lady with a Priority box that since it was books she was mailing to take it home and wrap the box in paper so she could send it media mail and save her $12.00

I do not understand why its such a big deal that I do not buy on ebay. Like I posted earlier, I simply do not buy. When I am looking for a particular gift for someone, I check the prices on ebay. Usually I'm looking for something that I can find at the local mall and would rather buy there (usually at a cheaper price) and not have to wait. The only "things" that I buy for myself are clothes and I prefer to try them on before buying. Can't do that on ebay. I'm not like the general public...I do not spend my money on material things. I save my money and go on nice vacations and pay the payment on a nice car and house. Don't give me a hard time for not spending money! Geesh!!
As for the Priority Mail box, I was simply asking whether it was allowed to ship using media mail in a priority box. I never said that I was upset about the cost or that it was shipped via media mail. I have not ever shipped using media mail and so did not know if they had a special "priority" media mail rate.
Thanks to you who answered my question. I didn't make a fuss about it with the seller, I did not leave bad feedback, I simply asked a question.
And, yes, I do have other things to worry about but in that moment, I chose to worry about this particular seller not playing by the rules. We all have our moments and I'm sure there have been times that you all cussed under your breath about something that was not done the way you expected.
