I had a new bidder bid on two of my auctions. One of them ended early. Bidder paid. I was very pleased, specially being a new bidder! I run to the post office and mail her package. I also did send her a "shipment Notice".
About three hours later she e-mails me saying she wants to cancel her order because she was charged the wrong amount!
I pull up my records, checked! She bid on two of the same item and paid for both(it was a FP auction). So I figured may be she wanted just one item and when she saw her bill it seemed too much for one item.
I e-mailed her back saying what has happend and as I already made the shipment there is nothing I could do about it. But I did offer to make the shipping free for the second item she won. That way, it will cover the extra money she paid(in her mind). I will be out of some money but atleast I can finish this transaction.
Here is the worse part, after all these..she goes to paypal and cancels her payment. So I am not only out the money on the items that I shipped, plus it doesn't look like she is going to honor the second auction.
What should I do? Is there anything that could be done about this?

I didn't realize that a buyer could reverse payment from PayPal. Good Luck

I wasn't aware either that a PayPal could be reversed and payment could be retracted. I thought the payee had to turn it around and send an overpayment back. This concerns me. I've also noticed that a number of sellers absolutely do not accept PayPal and I'm wondering if they have had similar or other bad experiences. I also send items out within a day of receiving a PayPal payment. Are there some words of caution?

If your PayPal preferences are set up so you have to manually accept the funds, the buyer can cancel the transaction anytime before you accept them.

If you accept the paypal payment they can not just cancel it once its in your account. If payment was by e check then you wait till p.p. tells you it cleared.

So then, whats the full story here?

cta: Many people have had bad experiences with Paypal (or so they say), but I think many others are just paranoid about the stories they have "heard" and, of course, a lot of them just don't want to pay the fees associated with using it!

I have used them ever since they started (long before they charged fees) and haven't had any trouble. But then, I am one of those sellers who offers a money back guarantee anyway so I don't have a lot of worries there.

And...I have only had 2 people ask for their money back in all my years on Ebay which includes thousands of transactions. One didn't read the description, and one had a missing page in a TV guide I sold...my fault on that one, but I didn't check every page in the 1,000 guides I purchased for resale that year.

I'm with lindajean. Have been with P/P since it started. Have never had one bit of problem. Not even a return of funds. Did have one where the buyer forgot to pay the shipping. I notified him & made a refund & he sent the correct amount.

I've been very lucky as well and I also started using it long before they charged a fee. Though I've always wondered why some people just flat out refuse to use it. I now put in my payment notices that PayPal is my preferred means of payment. Also when I buy something on eBay I always us my PayPal funds to pay for items. Therefore, I only buy when PayPal is accepted. Seems like you're turning away a lot of business when you don't accept it. It's a small fee for getting the business. I once had someone pay me twice for an item that was over $100. I quickly told him of his error and sent money back to his account and all was fine. But I think as long as you are "Verified" and have a "Business" account, you should be okay. Hope so anyway.

This post was not about someone using or not using paypal. Sounds like highlyrecomended did not accept the payment fast enough and the buyer pulled it back to their own account.

And as highlyrecomended has shipped the items they wonder now how to get paid or their goods back at this stage.

Best to email them and ask for payment or reship the items back. Good luck.

Unless the auction is just for a few dollars, I really only want to bid with paypal. When I see a seller that says they are not responsible for lost items, I have to laugh. I know that if I pay with paypal, they had better use a trackable method or else I can dispute it and win. I don't see why bidders would not want to use paypal.

While I've never had a problem like this person said, a few months ago I changed my preferences to automatically accept all payments, since I've been shipping to non confirmed addresses anyway.

I have checked my account and I don't see any that have a "accept" by them. If this is something you have turned on maybe you want to turn it off?

I don't think they can get their money back once sent to my account.

And, I just paid for an item with Paypal and I didn't see anyway I could reverse that payment...even though I had just made it.

The few times I paid with paypal, it immediately went to completed.... didn't see anywhere a buyer can cancel the payment.

What your talking about just happened to me today.
Auction ended 3/11
My buyer overpaid me, sale was under 5.00 & she paid 1.00 extra by mistake. She sent me an email that she would cancel the payment & send the correct amount through paypal from her checking account. I told her that I would refund the dollar from my account because I didn't think she could cancel her payment which at the time was credited to my account & was 1.00 too much.
Paypal was down for maintenence last night so I couldn't refund it & planned to do it today.

Before I could reverse it I received an email, from her, that she was on the phone for 40 minutes with paypal, mostly on hold & not an 800 number either (probably cost her more than 1.00) & she reversed the payment & sent the correct amount. Well, sure enough to my surprise, her incorrect payment was no longer in my account, there is not even a mention of it. So somehow it can be done.

So far her correct payment has not shown up.
All this for 1.00 !!!

You will only get the accept/deny buttons if the payment comes from someone with an address that is not confirmed and you have chosen to look at these payments (there is an option where you automatically accept all payments).

Ahh this is how to stop the payment:

From Paypal:

Can I cancel a payment that I've already sent to someone?

You may only cancel a payment if the Status of the payment is Unclaimed and the recipient has not yet signed up for PayPal and collected the money. Show me (If your payment is Completed and you want to request a refund, please contact the recipient of the payment.)

The following 'Unclaimed' payments may be cancelled:
You sent your payment to an email address the recipient has not yet added to his account. Once the recipient adds the email address to his PayPal account, the payment will be automatically credited to his balance
The recipient has not yet confirmed his email address. For security reasons, PayPal can only credit payments sent to a confirmed email address

If you cancel an eCheck payment, the withdrawal from your bank account cannot be cancelled. Instead, the eCheck amount will be credited to your PayPal account balance.
