I've been looking for a good deal on a MS XBox for the last two weeks, both locally at stores and on eBay. I had a figure in mind that I wanted to spend and no more--and it was pretty low, let me tell you but it gave me a chance to spend some time as a buyer as opposed to selling.
Well, yesterday I bid on and landed a new XBox with two controllers, two games, all necessary accessories for $105!
I've never been a gamer, but this system has always impressed me when I've seen it on display and tried playing it. Or maybe I'm going through a mid-life crisis as I can't wait to play DOA Xtreme Beach Volleyball! LOL!

As long as everything is actually in working order, you did great.
We sell used refurb X-Boxes here in our store for $149 (Just the system, cables & controller- no games) and have a VERY hard time keeping them in stock at that price.

Thanks for the reply. THe seller describes the unit as NEW; he opened to box to include a demo disc of other games and the extra controller. I definitely plan to protect myself on this purchase with insurance but will have to pay with a MO. But, I'm pretty stoked about it!

I just had to jump in and state how much our family loves AND uses our xbox system!! I think you will enjoy it! It is used daily and not just by our son
Our favorite games are; star wars obi-wan, star wars jedi outcast, lord of the rings, etc.
Also, we bought a $30 adapter and now have a dvd player too!
Can't say enough about xbox!! Enjoy!

What is the seller's f/b? When registered? Any negs? Why ONLY a money order?

As long as it isn't a deal like this one.

Well, the seller is new with no feedback. He has already sold a Gamecube system and is selling a TV for about $100. His biggest drawback is that there are no photos of his items, just descriptions. I know the price I paid is terrific but I'm hoping everything will come through. We all have to start somewhere as a seller. As for PayPal, he hasn't registered for it, so I don't think that can be considered a drawback as a seller; it certainly hurts my conveinence factor, but I can go to the PO tomorrow and mail it out. I'll keep you all posted.
The one thing I feel bad about is that I often discourage my 3 year old about playing computer and video games and not to get wrapped up to the extent that you forget everything else. But...now look what Dad has gone and done! I'll never hear the end of it! LOL! Well, I'll get some easy games for him, so we can play together.

Petpost, good luck with your purchase, I sincerely mean that, hope it works out ok. Certainly if it does turn out to your satisfaction, one of the reasons would be a new seller not using photos would definitely see reduced bidding levels, so hopefully this was a good find for you.

This is probably something I would never buy on ebay, just too many opportunities for scams. I'd rather pay the extra and buy it and get some sort of guarantee. The seller with the list is really slick. My advice to anyone who buys electronics online is PAY WITH A CREDIT CARD - It is the only realy way to make sure you will not be taken.

Well, you guys (and gals) have gotten me thinking...His WBN is quite well written and asks for money to be sent to a PO Box. *gulp* So...I wrote to him to say that I would much more comfortable mailing payment tomorrow to a residential/street address. I asked if he had feedback on other auction sites as I would love to see it. I plan on taking every precaution I can to protect myself. I'll keep you all posted!

You might be on thin ice with this one since you cannot use a credit card. How about considering escrow with eBay, if it's still available.
I sort of used it once with a 100.00 item. Seller had no FB so I asked if her if she would consider escrow. When she agreed I felt that she was on the up & up. I told her nevermind, sent the money & received my item. This was long before Paypal existed.
Why don't you ask the seller if they aew willing to use escrow & see what kind of a reply you get. if it's no, I would back out.

OK, now I'm soooooo paranoid....just kidding!
Actually, after doing a search on his email address I found him on a rock band web site AND a dating website--with his PHOTO no less! Everything checks out..he lives where he says he does and he's 22 y/o. Well, let's give him the benefit of the doubt...

Was this on ebay? I did not find anything with that price on search. Make sure you did not just buy a "wholesale list".
One has to wonder about people some days, they never read! Next thing you know they come here moaning about how they got taken. When the auction tells you right up front that its a list they have nothing to cry about as they got what they paid for, no scam.
I definitely plan to protect myself on this purchase with insurance
Best to think this one over again pronto!
I wrote to him to say that I would much more comfortable mailing payment tomorrow to a residential/street address.
Now I know that a lot of people do have mail boxes, but even a street addy could be a lane or back alley.
no photos of his items
I would ask for some photos here, I know we all have to start somewhere but over a $100.00 bucks I like a bit more info.
But hey, I could be wrong here.[yeah, right]

Sorry if I'm raising a cynical point of view, but I think I scored a good deal and just wanted to beat my chest over it--a little.
Seller has responded and given me his street address. So...I'll proceed and let you know what happens..if you all care.

I hope it works out for you. No, not being cynical at all. I just know that many of the "too good to be true" deals never work out and there are lots of things to ponder over this one. Not to say that it is impossible to score a good deal, people do it on ebay all the time.
Besides, I don't see the auction on ebay and any one of us can jump in here saying what good deals we got and unless there is proof you just never know.
Good luck, let us know how it goes.

$105 for everything you mentioned is a great deal! Do us a favor...post back here once you get the system and test it out. We all need some confirmation from time to time of the truly honest great deals out there!

Just to update (in case anyone cares), payment was received by the seller and he's given me a tracking number from UPS. The box is being shipping by ground, it weighs 15+ pounds and should arrive by Tuesday. By golly, I think I have a live one!!! I just hope it *really works!*

Sounds like you did gooooodddd, enjoy. But I do have to comment on a PO Box. We are rural and had no home delivery when we purchased the property and built the home. So we have had a PO Box for 31 years. Recently everyone in our area was put on alert not to use their mail boxes on posts, as they were being rifled and things were being stolen for identification, checks being stolen etc., so, we are glad to have the PO Box. Just because someone has a PO Box, does not make them dishonest or questionable. Yes, we do have Fedex and UPS delivery.

I understand your stance on the mailbox; I live in rural area of Western Washington and boxes on posts are kind of an iffy thing, especially if the post is at the end of a VERY long driveway from your farm. However, this guy lives in a very upscale section of SoCal so I don't think he's doing any farming!

Well, folks...The XBox arrived today via UPS on the date predicted by the tracking number and it indeed contained 2 controllers, 2 games and a demo disc. I just hooked everything up...and it works PERFECTLY!! What a deal for $105! (plus $15 to ship) I had my doubts with the newbie seller, but I left glowing feedback. There *are* still bargains to be found if you hold to your guns. Anways, thanks for reading and contributing to the thread.
