This is a very heavy cast iron 2' long beer wagon & horsies I picked-up for a very few bucks. BUT, is it a TOY? Or something else? I'm concerned that the "barrels" are made out of plastic, so this really can't be pre-50's, right? I'm thinking this may have come from a taproom? It is unmarked. Any thoughts?

THANKS to 1 & ALL!

It's a reproduction made in China, they have been doing them for quite a few years now.

That's what I think anyhow.

Then I'm glad I got it for a Song and a Dance -- I had to sing a song while Ralphie danced!

Some days we really grovel in our never-ending devotion to feeBay!

OTOH: if it were CHINA, would it not be marked SOMEPLACE?

THANKS!

Ralphie insists that it attacks his food bowl screaming "Gravy Train!" Sometimes I wonder about that boy!

I think they may have had an easy peel off sticker saying they were made in China.

You can usually tell the repros from the originals by the seam going down the horse's back and by the wheel rods. The new ones are made quite crude in comparison to the originals and the seams are sometimes a bit open and rough on the new ones whereas the old ones had smoother seams. Also the plastic barrels mean that it is newer.

Each time they do a series of these they seem to get cheaper looking. I see the highest bid on this is for one being sold in Collectibles:Breweriana, Other Breweriana category but it has wooden barrels. Others put them in home decor, toys, or the animals/horses category.

BTW, what did you have to sing? Roll out the barrels, we'll have a barrel of fun... something like that?

NO! We had to sing the only song I know ALL the words to: "MacArthur Park!"

Well, it only cost me $3, so, considering the extreme hassle in packaging & extreme weight, I'm not gonna list it.

It was a $3 gamble that will become a door-stop or decor for my PREZ TUSH ROOM (the WC)!

THANKS EVERYBODY!

No, no box. But, I couldn't pass it up for $3...it COULD have been real. Hey, at least I don't play scratch tickets!

I sell approximately 175 different cast iron items that are made in China. I don't have this item for sale but can tell you that the wholesale price is around $7.00 so you did ok with your purchase unless they made you sing for over three minutes.

I've seen these with chains instead of rope and with cast iron barrels as well as wood and plastic ones.

The made in China on the newer items is usually an oval shaped paper sticker that's usually removed by the seller. The older ones will have made in China cast into the metal.
