long time now........What were your Rummage, Estate or Thrift Store finds? Anything exciting? I have stopped going to Rummage sales. I take that back I went to a sub division sale to look for dresses for me granddaughter and while there purchased a box of dishes and of course I had to dicker with the seller, bought the dishes went home threw away 1/4 of them because of chips and such but kept quite a few and they are doing exceptionally well. Thrift Stores are my outlet now and I can do quite well when they have their half price day. No more getting up early and fighting the eBay crowd.
Can't spell this early either....

Garage sales were bad for me this weekend. Ebay is where I found my best buys lately. I purchased an item 2 weeks ago for $20.00 moved it to the category it should be in and sold it for $82.00 .

I bought a ton of larger size clothing today at all different garage sales ~ spent maybe $2 at the MOST for a name-brand 2pc. dress size 2X. One place said everything on the table, .25! I bought 11 pieces, I think. These should all sell very well at a local consignment shop.
I also found a like new fossil watch for $2.50 (marked $5..it pays to dicker!!) and a pair of very good condition Doc Marten shoes for $2.00. Wish I could do this more!!

I was at the local Salvation Army and found 3 Baldwin Candlesticks. Two measure 7 inches high, and the third measures 3 inches high.
They are in perfect condition, including the Baldwin felt in the bottom. The price, .75 cents each. Total for the deal, $2.39. Oh, that darn tax!

Garage sales have changed a lot in the last two years. Lots of more JUNK and people much more wary of eBay sellers looking for items. Since I've moved out to the country, I find a lot of children's clothes, toys and hardware like farm equipment and tools. You have to go to a lot of sales to find really great stuff and deals. I'm also seeing garage sales opening on Friday and closing on Sunday...and just recently, sales opening on THURSDAYS! Now, that's hardcore!
Actually, I bought them for my own use. I think they would have retailed for about 100.00 new, and on ebay, I might get anywhere frim 30-45 dollars for them. So I think that I may keep them. Also, I do have a tax license.

Friday afternoon I stopped in at the Mission Catholic Thrift.
They had a Singer zig zag 503 machine in a nice cabinet for $25.00. In beautiful, like-new condition. I needed only the cabinet but I bought it anyway.
The drawers were crammed full of vintage and not-so-vintage notions, scissors, stuff like that.
The best part is my Mom likes the 503 machine better than her straight-stitch one. So the upshot is I'll swap this one for Mom's and sell hers on eBay.
Pretty neat, I think.
Oh, I have already sorted out the "vintage" stuff from the drawers, all ready to launch on AuctionWatch next Thursday. Gotta love Mission Thrift!

I do not have a sellers permit and I do sell but most of the items that I am and have been selling are the ones that I have collected over the years. My jewelry box runneth over. I do have a mall space and there is where I put my things I purchase at rummage sales. Tax is paid by the mall. Same with my husband he has a little space in another mall and they pay the tax there. I do add our sales total to our income on the IRS form.

I sell Olympic pins on Ebay, and all expense associated with getting them is deductable. My trip to the Olympics in Salt lake City? Deductable. My Tickets to events? I trade at events, so deductable. Rental Car, winter cloths (I live in Los Angeles, so a winter parka is a business expense), so on... all deductable. When all is said and done, I usually lose $2000 one year, and make $500 the next. You do have to be careful. If you never show a profit, it is no longer a business, but a hobby and is no longer deductable. By the way, my new computer? My storage shed, my DLS line, all deductable. All I can say is if you earn $5000 a year or more on Ebay, get a good accountant...

Last year I was doing my lunch hour rounds at the local thrift stores in Denver (on a good day I could scan 3 over lunch).
I came across a Perkins Brailler. I had never seen one before. It looks like a court-reporter thing but it types in braille. They had $20 on it. I wasn't sure about it, so I went home and checked ebay to see what the 'true value' of it was. Ebay had no hits at the time. I decided to chance it and bought it for $20.
I listed the thing starting at $35- figured that if it didn't go for more it wasn't worth the trouble so I would just stick it on a shelf and look at it. Anyway, I was wrong- it sold for $455.

That is what I LOVE about "the game"!! You just never know the odd things you might come across and if you dare to chance it, you might have hit the jackpot and of course, you might not have. I was at a sale the other day and saw a leather pair of pants, and matching leather tanktop sort of thing for a woman. It looked to be very expensive and they had $3 on it. I almost bought it, but then I wasn't sure if it was 15 years old or not. Now I am kicking myself because who knows? I could've sold it for $45 ........ next time I'll talk them down and chance it.

Two weeks ago went to a flea market and my husband (a non antique/collectible person) went along on a lark. He couldn't figure out why I paid $1 for a very ugly salt shaker. Sold for $40 this week.
