I recently signed up for the UPS occasional shipper account. I ran an address through and the rate was cheaper than the quick cost calculator. But it said something about not including applicable taxes or something like that. What taxes?

It is slightly cheaper. I don't remember the terms, but I think you have to do a certain amount of business to maintain the account or they charge you a small fee. Never ran into this problem because my company has daily service. There is frequently a fuel tax surcharge.
I print the label on plain letter on a laser and fold it in half and put it in a UPS stick on pouch. You can also get 2 to a sheet labels and print directly on the label. Both the labels and the pouches are avail for free under ordering supplies at UPS.com
You can bill your account or bill as you go with a cc. The USPS is doing the same thing now. You set up an account with a cc, and print mailing labels (with postage) on your laser.

I am assuming that you have UPS shipper online. It is cheaper if you do. They give you a discount because now you don't have all of those extra forms to fill out which UPS supplies at no charge. And they get all of their billing online which saves them time and money. I have found most to be 4 cents cheaper per package. And the best thing is UPS still picks up the packages.
