Well I pushed the envelope and got burned. Foolish me never took the safe harbor rules banning metal lawn Jarts form eBay very seriously. 14 day suspension! Now I am embarrased and bored! If you have been in a similar situation with eBay (short suspension) please leave a comment or suggestion. Will I keep my nearly 500 positive feedbacks and screen name? Thanks for responding......DONT LIST YOUR JARTS!!

Yes, you will keep your ID and feedback.

Anyone clicking on your feedback will see the following note in the box: Not a registered user.

Or what most of us refer to as NARU.

I wouldn't be surprised if you will have to request to come back after your 14 days. I've never been suspended or know anyone who has, so I don't know how it works.

I heard that the last guy who sold those was brought up on endangerment charges by the FBI!

Damn, I used to love those lawn jarts, that is until I lawn jarted my cousin and left a permanent scar on his chest. Never was much good at that game anyways...

Oh thank you thank you thank you ebay for once again protecting me from myself!

Now can we do something about doing away with those envelopes we have to lick? Those potential paper cuts can be soooooooo painful!

I personally think ebay should ban ALL Buffalo nickel listings since those could fall into the worng hands and be swallowed!

You will not loose feed back or ID.
But they will not come knocking on your door to get you back, you will need to contact them. And remember the time, they will not let you back 1 minute early.

It's about time eBay cracked down. I've had three winning bidders this week tell me they couldn't pay because somebody hit their check-writing hand with a lawn jart.

Just for sh*tzNgiggles write ebay back and ask if you can list the lawn jarts under A4A?

Maybe you were choosing the wrong option!

heheheheheheheh

ANYTHING is listable under AFA!

Perhaps fences, drug dealers, and pimps would benefit from auctioning off their old wares via AFA!

"Oh thank you thank you thank you ebay for once again protecting me from myself!"

Before we get too sarcastic here, realize that ebay is just enforcing the ban set up by the Consumer Products Safety Commission.

Oh sorry...did NOT understand this! Allow me to ammend the previous post:

Thank you thank you thank you faceless, namesless, self-serving bureaucrats for saving me from myself!

Are these the same people that keep telling us how bad cigarettes are for us but do nothing else EXCEPT tax the h#ll outta them?

Nope, that would be the Surgeon General and Congress.

The CPSC are the folks that force manufacturers of faulty products to recall them -- and the folks who blow up a mannequin in front of the tv news cameras every year before the 4th of July to remind people to let go of the fireworks after they light them. Some people really do need to be protected from themselves.

ubb got me again!

I have some bidders like that. Didn't know CPSC was who should be called on their behalf. Thought it was ASPCA. Different alphabet soup, I guess.

I think the lawn jarts expose was on 60 Minutes. Surprise they don't ban halogen lamps.

I am LMAO here...

I just got finished watching "Me, Myself, and Irene" with Jim Carey.

In the movie, this Albino dude KILLED a bad guy from about 200 yards with a ...you guessed it, JART!

Also in the movie, Irene held Hank at bay with a ...you guessed it, JART!

The timing is just great I think.

Last time I saw one before today was like, 1973...I think. LOL

I wonder if I would get suspended for selling recalled Firestone tires on A4A?

I got suspended once. I suppose it was justified because I was selling a
banned item which shouldn't have been banned
in the first place. What really ticked me off
was that there were at least 50 auctions selling the same thing much more blatantly
than mine. I did tell ebay about this and they didn't do anything.

My last auction (prior to the suspension) was for an item that sold at $250+ dollars.
I contacted the high bidder and sold the item.
Ebay mailed me and said they had cancelled
the item and refunded my FVF and
listing fees...Only here is the kicker....
Instead of refunding my FVF fees, they refunded
the total closing price of the auction----$250+
! This ended up giving my account a credit
of over $200 which I am still trying to use
up! I suppose I should have informed them of the error, but I was pretty upset by the
suspension. What would others have done if placed in a similar situation?

Gee - I guess I will try to get suspended again.

AT LEAST TO END THE BOREDOM AND LOSS OF INCOME, JUST OPEN ANOTHER ACCOUNT IN THE MEANTIME. SIMPLE. C-YA. YOU MAY FIND OUT YOU LIKE HAVING A BACKUP ACCOUNT. EVERYONE SHOULD DO IT. THERE ARE NO RULES AGAINST IT. SOMETIMES I FIND THINGS THAT I WOULD NO WAY WANT RELATED TO ME BUT ARE WORTH BIG BUCKS AND I SELL THEM THERE AND NOBODY IS THE WISER. I ALREDAY HAVE 36 POSITIVES AND NO NEGATIVES!!!! ON MY BACK UP.

How do you have a backup account that is IN NO WAY RELATED TO YOU?

It would be related to you, but ebay suspends the ACCOUNT, not the person.

As for the $200 overage -- I'd have told them. Not only because it would be the right thing to do, but I'd be scared they catch it later and come take it anyway.

This might be a good way to turn a temporary suspension into a permanent one. From eBay's User Agreement:

Membership Eligibility.

Our services are available only to individuals who can form legally binding contracts under applicable law. Without limiting the foregoing, our services are not available to minors. If you do not qualify, please do not use our services. Further, our services are not available to temporarily or indefinitely suspended eBay members.

As for this:

It would be related to you, but ebay suspends the ACCOUNT, not the person.

Note that they say suspended eBay MEMBERS, not suspended eBay ACCOUNTS.

Also, there have been posts here on AW in the past from suspended members who found their alternate accounts also suspended once eBay became aware of them, but you're free, of course, to try it out yourself and see what happens...

Has anyone thought of notifying the CPSC about that faulty cog at the top of the ebay wheel?

Lately, that one seems to be poking more people in the eye than any old set of lawn jarts!

edited cause my caffiene level wasn't up to par yet!

No problemo- although one can never be sure how eBay will respond to any situation, I would hate to see somebody make more trouble for themselves based on a message board suggestion. Sometimes, keeping a low profile is the safest approach.

mrpotatoheadd you are correct. The first thing eBay suggested in the initial email was NOT TO ATTEMPT TO OPPEN A SEPERATE ACCT. I also got the same message for a rep in customer service via telephone. I will play it safe and wait for Oct 8th. Thanks everyone!!
