I want to bookmark a page in ebay that gives all the categories with their codes. When I list a second category in Channelfusion they ask for the number and I don't know where to find it easily. THANKS

You can also get the number from step two of the ad creation process by selecting the category with the JavaScript chooser and then "stealing" the number to your clipboard to paste into that box on the next page. Then pick the first category and click continue, pasting the clipboard value at that next step.

If you're posting to eBay Stores, don't forget to select your Store Category as well on the category selection page.

Marshall - that's what I've been doing, but I am thinking about how to handle any possible free listing days when I'll want to double list everything. I think it will be faster then if I have a list of all the codes either printed out or bookmarked so I can have it in a window while I am loading my auctions.

I had the bright idea of downloading the complete category list to Word so I could print it out. I opened the document and boy was I surprised when it was it was 105 pages. I spent the next 2 hours editing out a gazillion pages of categories I know I will never use.

I finally got it down to a manageable 70 pages. It is so unwieldy I printed it on 3 hole punch paper and put it in a binder with tabs.

It was a lot of work but it has made things easier at times. The only problem is that eBay has this habit of adding and deleting categories and I have done this more than once.

You'll be happy to note that most of the time they make category changes the old category ID numbers are preserved if there is a relevant new category to assign them to. But yes, every time they make those changes I have to go and get them and build a new category chooser for our stuff, so it can get irritating.

Currently there are about 6645 categories at eBay on the main site (not counting Premier or Motors or any international ones), though you can't post to all of those.

Fortunately it's not all that difficult for me, so we usually have it done within an hour or two of their Friday morning changes. It helps when you spend the time to build the tools to automate a lot of it.
