I attended the live chat tonight on eBay concerning AFA issues. Unfortunately neither of my questions were addressed. I did manage to take notes on some issues that were being raised here, and thought you might be interested in reading them....
There was a question concerning Disney's participation, and "Michael" from eBay replied that Disney had a very high profile and basically eBay was honored to work with them. "Making the pie as large as possible is simply the right thing to do". (To this I asked the question: "If eBay's intention is to make this pies as large as they possibly can, then why did they reject PayPal's offer to participate?" - no response)
Someone else did ask if eBay was going to accept PayPal's offer to participate and "Michael" replied: "No, but we will encourage PayPal to make any donation they would like through one of the "Cash Giving" tools or directly to the charitable organizations that are at the heart of the relief effort."
Another participant asked that since it was stated in the discussion that "no company shall profit from the AFA, that there are more ways for a business to profit besides money. Shouldn't the increased user base BillPoint will gain via its forced use of AFA be viewed as a profit?" To which "Paula" from BillPoint replied: "I would be foolish to say that Billpoint would not be delighted to see Buyers and Sellers using our service. eBay sellers can still use the forms of payment that they choose for their regular eBay listings....Buyers don't have to register to use Billpoint".
