I went to Walmart Supercenter in Danville today and bought a loaf of bread, they went from 82 cents a loaf last week to $1.24 a loaf this week.I think a hike of 42 cents is a bit much at one time.Gee can't wait till I price the other items in the store I normally buy.I think I better find a cheaper store.

Bread prices have gone up a lot everywhere and this has not happened overnight although grain/supplier shortages can raise prices very fast. I buy whole wheat bread and the typical store price has gone up nearly 1.00 per loaf in the last couple of years. The best place to find a good price is a bakery outlet. I get a loaf for $1.00 that goes for about $2.50 at the grocery store. The lady of the house was complaining when it went up from .90. Oh pleeeez.
Walmart has raised some prices closer to market, but I probably save 30 percent there anyway. I'm not defending them, but you do need to keep a perspective.

It's high time that corporate welfare stopped and consumers visited small struggling shops again, afterall those small stores pay school taxes and help build small communities. Try shopping in smaller stores and meet your neighbors.

Next time you're out yardsaling, look for a bread machine. I've found two this summer at $5 each (one even had documentation) - one for me and one for mom. It's so easy and tons cheaper than "store bought" bread.

Yeah, and the sad thing is that Walmart price is probably for tasteless homogonized plain white bread. So what's the lowest common denominator here and what does this have to do with eBay?

Rather than finding a cheaper store, find a richer spouse who can afford an extra .42¢.

kathyg: I think the mods have all been fired, so the inmates are taking over the ebay board...
Actually, I like this little thread--a welcome respite from all the nitpicking about that A4A program, Paypal's inscrutable terms, etc etc.
Boneless sirloin steak (non-Angus) was $1.99/# here in Wash, DC--a price we haven't seen for more than a year. 24oz supermarket bread always less than $1 somewhere.

What was I thinking when I let this thread stay opened?
Please restart it in the Round Table should you so desire.
Thanks!
