I have been using Cute FTP to upload my auctions pictures to the space we have through our ISP. It's been a little buggy lately, and the last couple of days won't connect properly at all. I think it may have to do with the Linksys Router we use to share out our cable internet connection.
Anyway, those of you who use FTP programs, which one do you use and why?

I have used WS-FTP by Ipswitch Software for about 6 years now. It's a reliable program that's pretty straightforward to use. They have a free version and a paid version.

I use FTP explorer by ftpx (ftpx.com). Works just like windows explorer.

I'm with avalon. I to have been using WS-FTP for six years and think it's great.

WS_FTP by Ipswitch Software.
I have used both the free version and WS_FTP Pro. (I believe that the Pro version is also available as a trial).
I use the Pro version for large uploads like websites. The free version is fine for photo transfers to your web space. Also used Cute FTP but I liked WS_FTP better - it has been so long I forgot the specific reasons why.

I use WS_FTP by Ipswitch Software, not a lot of bells and whistles on it, but then I don't need them. Gets the job done.

Ipswitch for my auctions. Use a different one for website.
I think you can go to tucows.com and get ipswitch for a free version.

WS-FTP. You can get the free version at www.ipswitch.com - click on Downloads, then select WS_FTP LE 5.08
Before I used WS-FTP, I was transferring files using Unix commands. That got old in a hurry ....

Well, I can't connect directly to my web space either, so the problem must not be with Cute FTP but with the server itself. Blast...

I use LeechFTP. It's freeware, multithreaded, and has a very nice and intuitive interface. Plus some of the dialog boxes are in German, which is fun ("Abbrechen" instead of "Cancel" ).

Hey Meya: I was just going to say I also use CuteFTP through a DSL router and routinely upload to a number of different web servers - no problems at all, so I doubt it's the CuteFTP.
About a month ago, I was having difficulty in uploading to just one web site, and it turned out to be caused by some adjustments they had made to the firewall on their end.

Well, I loaded another FTP program on my laptop, and still cannot connect to my web space. I am getting password errors, so I don't know if it is firewall problems from the router, or Road Runner messing with something. I'll either wait a day, or call their help(not) desk.

Greetings:
Go out to tucows.com and make an FTP selection from their offerings.
When we switched to cable modem we were having problems with WS FTP so I started using Free CoffeeCup FTP.
It is free (there is a pay version but I don't need the extras). Be sure when you set it up to click on the little switch that asks about being behind a firewall.
I am really ill right now and can barely remember my own name but I think you router is acting as a passive firewall and flipping the switch on the CoffeeCup software will fix everything for you.

What fetishtemple said made me think of something else... if you haven't already tried it, look at your current ftp client's settings and see if you can select "passive mode." That might do the trick (or might not, but it's worth a try).

Hmm . . . sorry to hear that, fetishtemple. I've had Cable for over a year now and one version or another of WS_FTP Pro for the last 6 years. Never a problem.
P.s. Of you WS_FTP Pro users, how many of you use that new Explorer-type interface? Everytime I try that, I just get confused and end up using the Classic two-paned window interface. How about you?
