Here's the situation. The auction ended on October 2nd. The TOS call for payment to be made within 14 days of the auction's ending date. If I don't receive the payment on the 14th day, I email them asking for payment. Also on the 14th day, I take the first step in filing for the FVF refund by emailing ebay about this transaction.
Today I received a reply from a bidder who I emailed about non-payment. She indicates that she paid the very first day (Oct. 2nd) with Paypal and had been waiting for the item. She further told me to check my records and I will find her payment and if I don't send her the item she will file a complaint against me for failing to send the item and keeping the money.
Giving her the benefit of the doubt, I checked all my Palpal history from October 2nd to today. Her name or transaction is NOT in my history, nor is her email address.
What do you think my next move should be on this? Thanks for your help.

Tell her that you have carefully checked your paypal records and can't find it. Ask her for proof, transaction #, email or whatever

Ask the buyer to check her records. IF she did pay I'll bet that she somehow messed up the email address. I bet that the payment shows as 'pending' in her history.
If that was the case, all she has to do is cancel the payment and resend it to the correct address.

It sounds a little strange that she hasn't gotten in touch with you before today since
she claimed she paid on Oct. 2nd. Most people wouldn't wait that long if they paid the first day with PayPal.

yeager- Do what you are doing. Ask her for proof. She hasn't supplied you with enough to make it work. No transaction from Pay Pal on the 1st either? Either way you should be able to search the history of Pay Pal and negate it. Also, since she didn't pay you, why would Pay Pal allow her anything? Don't worry about it FVF next.

This happens all the time. Many folks don't care to take the time to contact the seller directly. It never seems to occur to them that things are a little different wehn they give the wrong EMail address, like PayPal doesn't actually seem to have your account (last name, etc.) on file. Most likely she is telling the truth.

I had that happen to me (though my bidder was nicer about it)
I asked her for the transaction number, since I checked my records and I couldn't find the transaction. It turned out that she typed my email addy wrong by one letter, and didn't enter my last name. The money was just sitting waiting to be collected. She cancelled the account and sent it again to me.
I would tell the bidder that you have every intension of completing the transaction, but without proof of payment you can't send the item out.

I have myself sent an incorrect e-mail address with payment. Just a slip of the finger transformed .com into .CON and the seller never received payment. This resulted in a Mexican stand-off for a week as we each waited (patiently) for something to arrive that never did. My sell WAS very nice, however, and when I checked my Paypal history, there was my payment with the incorrect address sitting there "unclaimed". It was easy to cancel it and re-send the correct payment. A happy ending with positive feedback all around. Have your buyer check. Her payment is probably sitting there unclaimed.
