It is not like them to not extend the time of the auction for the same amount of time that the system was down. Very unusual.

skyscout That doesn't seem fair. We need another day added. We all know that people snipe all the time and they will just give up tonight. This is bad. I feel for the people that end most of their auctions on Sunday. This is why you should spread them out!

I agree. It is imperative that all sellers spread their auctions out, given the reality of unpredictable outages.

If ebaY can't manage the flow of auctions, they should give discounts for listing at off peak times. -Rosalinda

Ebay makes as much sense as the government!!!
Where do they get the idea that they will refund only if they have been down two hours or more??? If I have auctions closing and they are down my last minute I am losing money. I don't care if they are down 3 or 4 or 5 hours or 3 or 4 or 5 minutes. If its when someones auction is ending, the autions should be extended an automatic 24 or 48 hours or some reasonable amount of time. I am tired of stupid rules that make no sense!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not to defend eBay tooo much, but the system outage policy does make sense, from a behind-the-scenes viewpoint. From their System Outage page:
"Following a hard outage of two or more hours, eBay will extend the end times for all eligible listings by 24 hours. This activity prevents bidding on these listings while the end times are being reset. After resetting listing end times, eBay updates search and listing indexes. Until these index updates are completed, these listings will be unavailable via search or view listings features. This re-indexing can take a few hours."
In other words, by the time they re-do everything, there are very few hours of the 24 hour extension left that anybody can find the auction and re-bid. And most bidders have already figured the auction closed "yesterday" so they don't go back to it.
Plus, the automated EOA's can't be "undone" - they've already gone out and notified the high bidders (and many sellers will have already sent out their invoices as well). So then, all the bidders get confused because now they've got sellers emailing them that the auction was extended, they aren't the high bidder, and you'll need to undo your PayPal, etc., payment ...
It sounds good for eBay to extend auctions for very short outages, but the after-effects of doing so don't really give much benefit for the sellers, and they frustrate the bidders.
