Yes, in fact somebody else had a thread going last week. I have found priority has been taking 7-10 days, even when going only 2 states away. Somebody told me maybe it is because all their college student Summer labour went back to work, but I don't know if that's true. Glen Ward

Also, I have been offering UPS as an option, generally for about $6.50 . It is more expensive but worth every penny on larger or more expensive items. Better tracking, and they are easier to arrange pickups with. I wish everyone would use it as it would simplify life greatly, but not every item is worth the cost to ship UPS. Actually, though, UPS also tends to lose track of items, and when they do, they don't make it show up on their tracking site as such. I had an item lost by them 2 weeks ago and it just sat there in Illinois for a week, according to their site!

I dunno about Priority, but the packages I've shipped first class have been making it across country in three to four days. It's been like that for months here. And I use a teeny tiny post office that's an hour into the sticks from Portland (Oregon). Actually,
I've had a couple packages both sent and received show up from NJ in two days via first class!
Now watch, just because I said that, my mail will now take twice as long to get delivered next time.

Had an interesting one happen today. I mailed a payment on the 11th. Turned up in my own mailbox today. My post office took three days to send it to the address in the upper left corner of envelope (mine) rather than to recipient's addy. sheesh...

Upinthehills:
LOL! That's a good one.... geesh.. you'd think they'd at LEAST know which one is the return address! Of course - being called the "return" address might have just screwed them all up....

I was lucky!
Last week, Priority was slow for me, but I shipped 1st Class from Fl to Ca, it only took 2 days! I've been using DC on all my Priority Shipping since July, and I notice it's getting slower since early Sept.

Now I don't know just exactly how true this is, but it is what I was told by an informed source. Get your grain (or pound, as it were) of salt ready...
Seems that the new contract negotiations with postal employees is coming due shortly. The general slowdown would appear to be a ploy by employees to show that they don't have enough people working, need more equipment, more money, etc. etc. This will supposedly give them some leverage at the bargaining table to raise the staffing and budget levels.
Do I believe it? To some small degree it does make a little sense, but I don't think I buy it completely. After all, deliberatley slacking at work isn't a great way to keep the boss off of your back. I would agree with them that they do need more resources to keep ahead of the growth.
I sure think having all of the counter stations manned during peak times would help tremendously. I stood in line at my PO today for 50 minutes before I got to a clerk. This is a VERY busy PO and Saturdays are a zoo there! I passed the time by looking longingly at the 4 empty clerk stations out of an available 7 (!), and at the line now snaking it's way out of the front door for another 30 feet down the sidewalk!
Postal clerk, my postal clerk. Where fore art thou my postal clerk? :^)

Insured International Mail:
Mailed package December 10th, 1999 (insured for $485)
Issued refund to customer and filed insurance claim with USPS on January 28th, 2000
Received a letter from the USPS acknowledging claim and stating that they were investigating in May 2000.
Received a letter from the USPS in August 2000 stating that the UK post office had no record of the package and they were processing the insurance payment.
Today, still no check from USPS.
Hard lesson learned, it would have been $10 extra to send it via UPS, Fedex, or DHL and not had to wait so long. (and probably not had the package lost in the first place)

UPS sent to me gets redelivered to you in about a month...
Why?
Because OUR UPS delivery person doesn't deliver!! And he doesn't leave notices! So, ship UPS and I'll never know I have a package!!
So sorry! This is why I request shipments via USPS only... or else you can figure out how to get your UPS shipment to me... (because UPS won't deliver it or let me know it's here...)
P.S. I've called and complained lots of times. It does no good. The worst part is that there is a handicapped person in my household who is home 24-hours a day. There is no excuse for saying there was "no one home" because there is always someone here. Does UPS care? Nah...
