I read in one of the posts below that paypal requires a tracking number on all auction items shipped after being payed for by paypal.
Is this true?
I ship a lot of my books that I auction via bookrate US mail and you can't get a tracking number with that shipping choice.
Can someone please clarify this for me. Is this true with both types of paypal accounts?

The tracking number on a package would be for the seller's protection if the buyer claimed nothing had been sent. Many items are of such a value that that is a bit overkill and people accept the risks.
If I'm sending someone a Leica camera you can bet I'm going to have insurance and confirmation out the wazoo, if I'm sending a book on darkroom tips I'm not going to insure it or even purchase delivery confirmation.

Yeah most transaction that are done on these auction sites buyers and sellers must be willing to assume reseasonable risk to keep this all low cost.
if you buy something from auction this is mail order there is a certin amount of Risk involved.
as a seller I am responceable for getting the Item you win in a package and to the post office after buyer sends payment by what ever means you pay.
buyer & sellers dealing with check and money orders must Accept the risk that mail maybe lost or slow buyer may have to have lost money orders tracked and send another in the mean time sellers accept risk checks bounce buyer accepts risk of makeing it good and paying the sellers bank fines.
on Items that are low priced or not worth the extra cost of insurance and tracking and stuff buyer must accept the fact that seller has no control over shipping damage out side of fairly packageing items.
all must Accept these risks insurance and insurance claims simply incresses the cost of running and doing business and incresses the cost of item bought to cover these insurance claims.
people moan and complain about the fees related to selling on Ebay yet buyers continue to incress there complaints and Insurance claims to there insurance.
buyers mainly but sellers too to a certin point complain about incressing postal rates yet buyers continue to incress damage claims many are very honest but im willing to bet many are not as well.
sellers continue to complian about paypal billpoint merchant credit cards fees yet buyer continue there charge back claims many are honest but im will to bet that a good many are simply buyer remores related & postal service related.
insurance is great to have for your big big problems but people must be willing to accept reasonable risk involved here cause insurance can kill this business as well makeing it so high cost that inless then a year only the richest will be able to run online person to person sales.
Right now a person doing $1000 in sales that takes paypal sells on ebay & add USPS insurance even if the buyer dont ask for it is paying $100 or more just to insure them selves from fraud buyers and damage.
damage is a risk all buyers must accept from mail order. in big business even your credit card you must be willing to accept the frist $50 in risk.
even on your car and home owner insurance to hold down cost most will have $250 to $500 deductable that means they are willing to take a risk on there own for the frist up to $500 in damages.
a buyer out there who bids and win 100 autions and requests postal insurance on every peice or a seller who pays the insurance them selves is paying $85 just to the post office for insurance on these 100 items this insurance will be in effect an average of 2 to three days it takes to ship from one point to the next some call this peace of mind I call this Exspensive Most good Drivers dont pay this for one month of car insurance I know I dont I dont even pay that yearly for home owner insurance or life insurance.
if a bidder won a $100 or a $500 item this insurance would be worth it no matter how many buyers won bids for this amount but face it the average bid priced is more $5 or $20
the seller or buyer of 100 of these items is paying $85 to the PO. for insurance .
seller are now paying paypal for credit card services $25 and more for fraud protetion insurance this is already $110 or more in insurance for a period of 8 to 10 day coverage on $5 and $20 items then on top of that the ebay fees in which these part of these fee pay for this insurance they offer as well which cover like 50% of purchases called fraud protection.

You can send books bookrate with a tracking nr. I use USPS Delivery confirmation $.60 on bookrate packages to prove the item was sent.

Thanks for the replies
I guess the semo-final answer is that paypal does not require a tracking number on items shipped that have been paid for using paypal. Someone in a prior post had said that items could not be shipped using first class mail because a tracking number was not an option for that class of mail. I inferred from that post that Paypal required sellers utilizing their services for payment to provide a tracking number or delivery confirmation.
Its good to know that I can get delivery confirmation on bookrate shipping.

Full agreement that insurance or tracking is a ridiculous waste of money on inexpensive items. But beware Paypal policy statement appears blind to this.

definately home owner can get insurance for under $85 a month depends on the price of the home you live in but home owner insurance for this house is very under $85 a month in fact if we paid $85 a month the poilcy would be paid off for the year in under 5 months
and you can get life insurance for as litte as $24 a month not a million dollars but its insurance that will pay for your hole in the ground and some of the glitter.
