I lurk alot, write seldom. I too am leaving PayPal but need something to replace it. It is a shame because I loved using PayPal. I am leaving because I understand policy changes but feel they have not been fair.
I've looked at ExchangePath.com - but have not read much about them from AW posters. Do you use them? Do you like them? How do they compare to the PayPal before the fee changes?
I have seen mention of Paydirect but can not locate this website. Do you know anything about Paydirect? Do you use them? Do you like them? How do they compare to the PayPal before the fee changes?

I have taken any mention of PayPal out of my listings since 10/6/00 and would like to offer some type of quick payment option to by clients. Your experiences would be appreciated.

Not PayMe, that's for sure.
They apparently went belly up this week. Site's been down for several days- there's a screen on one of their pages pretty much saying they aren't coming back. Wonder how many folks had money in their accounts over there?
I'm still using PayPal, but keeping the balance low.

outoftheblue,
Thanks! Do you use Paydirect on eBay? This may sound really dumb but since paydirect is a Yahoo deal, can you use it on eBay? Or does eBay froen on this?

I'm borderline on dumping PayPal, which is going to be a tough decision because 50-60% of my buyers use it (I run approximately 500 auctions a month, so that's quite a few people).
The next in line for me personally is BillPoint. I've used them before, and know that they, at least, seem to do what they say.
For me it's not such a question of fees as much as dependability and trustworthiness.

I can highly recommend PAyDirect.
I use it for both my Ebay & Yahoo auctions. I have found it to be very very easy to use. I never used PAyPal so I can't give you a comparison, but I have been very happy with PAyDirect.

Hi! I've been using ExchangePath for a short time now. Out of 10 winning bidders recently (I'm a closet-cleaner), 2 paid by ExchangePath and only 1 paid by PayPal.
The two ExchangePath transactions came to $210 with my new account bonus (which was promptly credited to my account). I asked for a transfer to my debit card (Visa) and it took just a few days.
So, I've had no trouble with the two transactions I've done!
Neither PayPlace nor PayDirect will take my Visa debit card, so I can't say anything about them, but I've only heard good things about PayDirect.

I too lurk a lot but don't comment often. However, right now this is the only part of AuctionWatch I can access, so I have time. I also use PayPal and have never had a problem, but reading what everyone is going through is definitely making me think.
I also use BidPay.com. The buyer pays a $5 fee, the seller nothing. They charge the buyers credit card and send the seller a WesternUnion money order. It takes a bit longer, but you actually have the money in hand. They are also international. That is what most of my European customers use and I've never heard of any problems. I may discontinue PayPal and use BidPay exclusively.

I have a couple questions too.... Can I put on my ebay auctions pages that I take paydirect (if I sign up for paydirect?) I mean, can I put a button or something there with the paydirect name, or ? If I sign up for exchangepath, can I also put that down as a method of payment on my ebay auctions?
More questions STILL: Do I have to worry about "chargebacks" if I use paydirect? of if I use exchangepath?
I was of the understanding that I don't have to worry about chargebacks with paypal..and that I DO have to worry about chargebacks with billpoint..except there are no chargebacks at billpoint if buyer is using an electronic check...?
All of these horror stories about paypal are worrisome. I have had absolutely no problem whatsoever with paypal - it's been great, but since the fees started, I've raised starting bids to try and make up for what I'm losing in fees..plus I've had to tell buyers that I can't ship their item first class if they're using paypal, because I can't get delivery confirmation on first class items at the PO..and paypal requires a tracking number..,,So if they want their item sent first class (very cost effective for lightweight items) they have to use something besides paypal as payment... Previously, I shipped ANY way for the buyers..first class, parcel post, book rate, priority, whatever..but can't do that now if they use paypal. Previously, my TOS stated that package had to have EITHER confirmation OR insurance...but now insurance (under $50) doesn't fit the bill for paypal, so if they're using paypal to pay, they HAVE to have confirmation and if they want insurance, they pay for that as well...It's enough that more are opting to go the money order or billpoint check route on my auctions now. I wish paypal would accept the green insurance receipt as "proof" of shipping but oh well.
TIA for any help with my questions.
Had to go back and edit the above...it was a LONG week. TGIF~

Yes you can use it on Ebay and about 70 to 80 % of my ebay customers are using it a little higher then my Yahoo customers. I have been using it since it opened and dumped Paypal a few weeks ago. I have been quite happy with Paydirect. My buyers had no problem with switching to Paydirect. It was an easy turn over for me. (here is the text I put in with the logo on Ebay," I also take
PAYDIRECT a Free, Fast, Easy and SECURE to use service that takes credit cards (VISA MASTERCARD), ATM/check card. So, you can pay online! Address to be sent winning bidder. "
The other thing that made me nervous about paypal is when they stopped opening X.com accounts saying they were going to put all their efforts into Paypal. Think about what they really says. They don't have enough capital for both is what it comes down to. Okay, something smells here. Something isn't as stable as they would like people to believe. I may only have 6 or 7 accounting courses to my Business degrees, but I would love to see the paypal books all of them if you know what I mean. I read some where also that the CEO left. If that is true then you know there is something really not right on the inside. Well that and all the other "things" we have been seeing. I think paypal shot themselves in the foot and the ship has a slow leak myself and I am not going down with it.
I would suggest if you are going to use Paydirect you go to this thread on AW and pick out a banner. The smaller one are for Ebay. http://www.auctionwatch.com/mesg/read.html?num=6&thread=5754

I use 3 pay services, one of them is PayPal and will continue to be until the news services express doubts on their performance.
On one hand I see some messages on the message boards talking about their demise, on the other hand I see reports they are still signing up 10 to 20 thousand new members a day. Also their list of business partners continue to grow, when Intuit signed a 5 year agreement to make PayPal their default payment method that caught my attention.
If, the news services and announcements are correct and PayPal does start accepting international accounts, and offers interest on account balances and debit cards then they will be in the big league.

Paydirect: Had some initial problems where buyers could not get it to work. Been fine since that and very quick.
Also use BidPay, never had a problem with these people.
I take billpoint and amazon 1 click as well- that covers the US and Canada for me.

Thanks everyone for your responses. You have all been very helpful. I am going to check out Paydirect and ExchangePath in more detail. I have loved using PayPal but the trustworthyness is a real problem with me. I do not want to wait until it happens to me and have to come here to get it off my chest. I can not afford to have a PayPal problem. So I will be jumping that ship and swimming over to the next one. I see no other option.

hmmmm. Paydirect took our Visa Debit card with no problems. PayPlace on the other hand rejected it (something about not being able to verify the address).

Outoftheblue. I use my Visa debit card with paydirect and I have no problems. That is even where the transport my money to when I want to tranfer it out of my paydirect account. I also know others that use their visa debit.
