1652.5 with Verizon DSL.

So much better than when I was on dial-up with Earthlink! I not only save on the monthly fees but I was able to get rid of my extra phone line!

DSL is an actual connection type. A particular protocol. "High Speed" is meaningless.

hendrix: Dsl, cable etc. is also not an option where I am. ..you might want to look into wireless isp's in your area. This is NOT satellite. It's terrestrial line of sight broadband. Sometimes the wireless isp's don't do such a great job letting potential customers know they're available. My antenna looks at a tower that's 17 miles away and I get 2mb download speeds or better and almost a full mb up. Costs 36 bucks a month.

http://www.dslreports.com is a great resource for all things broadband.

Failed to mention, keep in mind that upload speed, which is hardly ever mentioned by ISP's , is important too. Don't forget that for everything that comes IN to your machine, a request had to go OUT to get it. The longer that request takes, the slower your connection can seem. Most speed tests don't test UL. Here's one that does, and a test I just ran.

We have AT&T (formerly SBC Global.Yahoo!) DSL.
Speed just now was 255000 kbps.

I was a bit leary when AT&T took over, but so far it's been good. $53.00/month and that includes our local phone bill.

Well prof, you better get digging. You are answering a question that was asked 2 1/2 years ago. hendrix: Dsl, cable etc. is also not an option where I am. ..you might want to look into wireless isp's in your area

Only proving who the dope really is. So, when did you become Republican?

sorry stonecold, I don't understand your comment. If you're upset by my sig, just ignore it. I offered hendrix a possible option to dialup. What's wrong with that?

3896 on Comcast Cable here is my small economically depressed area. Not too many cable customers here I don't believe.

Have found that speeds vary greatly with area -- when in Atlanta, for example, all my connections are agonizingly slow. DSL with Earthlink or Bellsouth there, for example, is no better than a fast dial up.

myoldtoy: I'm not very far from Bernie's, but for some reason I've never gone. Worthwhile?
