Hello,
Thank you for writing to us. I appreciate the opportunity to assist you.
In reviewing that account, I see that they have a score of 97.3%
positive feedback on the feedback page, however, as far as the
PowerSeller program is concerned, their feedback score is 98%. This is
because the formula the PowerSeller program uses to calculate the
feedback percentage is different from the feedback page.
The PowerSeller program counts each feedback comment, even multiple
comments from the same member, when calculating a PowerSeller's positive
feedback rating, while the Feedback page only counts unique comments.
In other words, four feedbacks left by the same member will count only
as one feedback on the feedback page while it counts as four separate
feedbacks for the PowerSeller program.
It is my pleasure to assist you. Thank you for choosing eBay.
Regards,
Maureen B.

No wonder their feedback scores get so high so fast! I don't know why they don't count each feedback comment for us as well.

I don't see a problem with this.
If you sell 10 items to the same buyer and they are satisfied with the transaction, why not count the FB individually when calculating the %. They are transactions that ended well. By the same token they must do the same with negatives posted by the same person. The powerseller % reflects the true % of FB left.
I recently sold a large number of postcard to a buyer with less than 10 FB..I got alarmed until I clicked on the FB for details. He had nearly 400 FB's registered but from less than 10 sellers. He got to add my one positive that counted (25+ actual purchases) to his total. This doesn't seem fair either.

I agree, a feedback is a feedback. I think the Powerseller system is the system that ebay should use for the regular feedback rating.
I was wondering what the heck was going on a few month's ago. My Powerseller feedback rating had gone up and it was a month or so until my "ebay" feedback rating increased. Guess stone figured out the mystery.

Powersellers' displayed feedback and positive rating is calculated the same as everyone else's. The positive feedback percentage for eligibility to become and remain a Powerseller is calculated differently, which doesn't seem fair.

I still don't see what's not fair about it...the way PS calculates FB% reflects TRUE %..but the one displayed by their names is calculated the same way as everyone else. Since it's only used to obtain PS status what's the big deal? I wonder which % they will use for ebay express?? Now THAT could be unfair!

I agree all feedback should count no matter if it is a multiple buyer or not it is a sell Ebay gets their fees why do we not get the feedback count. IT sucks big time in my humble opinion.

i never do understand these threads about "powerseller fill-in-the-blank is unfair." the fact is, we work hard to become and stay powersellers and we don't get there by having dissatisfied customers.

Vintage,
I agree. My 99.7% isn't based on some voodoo percentage math, and even if it were, I think that considering the fact that I'm selling items outside my "comfort zone" at least 30% of the time, it is a good rating.
I don't know that the powerseller rating is a huge achievement, but it's better than a stick in the eye, and I feel that I've earned it (... powerseller, not stick-in-the-eye).

I also have no problem with the current system, I think repeat business feedback should be calculated...I am almost at a 3-1 ratio of overall feedback to unique feedback. Honestly, when I buy on ebay, I do look at the feedback, and if I see enough negative, or the guy comes across as a jerk who is selling, I will skip their item

In my opinion, the PowerSeller program is just a marketing ploy by ebay to get sellers to list more items to attain a given sales level each month.
I'm sure some may disagree with me, but I really doubt PowerSeller status have much affect in attracting bidders.

Bidders want to know you are not a flake that is about it. Power seller is just an ego trip for the seller. Been there done that.. but no more...

I don't disagree with the true feedback argument, however there is clearly a double standard here.
You CANNOT become a powerseller unless you have a 98% feedback rating based upon the present ebay calculation of one feedback score person. But once you are a powerseller, then the rules change to overall feedback instead of feedback score. It needs to be one way or the other.
By the way, this is from our friend from the earlier topic titled "What exactly is fee avoidance?" http://www.vendio.com/mesg/read.html?num=2&thread=635990
It is clear that eBay does not want to keep the site safe. Just grab the money and run.

You're wrong. Again.
This is clearly spelled out in eBay's Help pages, which (equally as clearly) you have never bothered to read.

How do I qualify?
Each month eBay automatically sends email invitations to qualified sellers. To qualify, members must:
Have been an active member for 90 days
Average a minimum of $1000 in sales per month, for three consecutive months
Achieve a Feedback rating of 100, of which 98% or more is positive
Have an account in good financial standing
Looks pretty clear to me. It's clear, if you pay the bucks and give poor customer service, you too can be a powerseller.

What a hoot.
Show me the "illegitimate dishonest" way to become a PowerSeller, why don't you.
By the way, the correct slang for legitimate is legit, not leg-ite. I don't know what legite is, unless it's someone who adores legs.
I became a PowerSeller today. I asked for an invitation and got one. My feedback percentage is 97.9%.
In my opinion, the PowerSeller program is just a marketing ploy by ebay to get sellers to list more items to attain a given sales level each month.
Steve is absolutely correct. It is a marketing program, nothing more. Over time eBay has added some trivial privileges (like a separate registration line at eBay Live for PowerSellers), but the main goal is to get you to try to sell more, more, more.

Thats MISS NEW ORLEANS to you poot head. I did get up off my AZZ and I moved away! HA! I'm not cleaning up anything. Boy you sure sound dumb as a stick! Looks like you would be glad the powerseller system is set up that way. You probably need it!
And for you fluffy, its more than a trivial marketing plan, its an incentive that some people work very hard to acheive. So don't downplay other people's hardwork to make something out of their position in life. Sales is tough and to get some perks from Ebay to show that you are committed to your reputation and your sales is a good thing. I wear my title proudly and plan to move up to GOLD shortly.

As a retired sales and marketing professional, the Powersellers program is a classic incentive program. Recognition is far more effective than monetary awards in incenting folks to work their butts off. I'm as needy for a pat on the back as the next person and check daily to see if eBay has moved me to the next level.

I work my butt off for money, my powerseller status is just my badge. I'm not so stupid and desperate for approval that I need a pat on the back. I put food on the table and pay all my bills with the money I make. I earned my status by my might not by my weakness.
I don't work for EBAY, I work for me! Ebay is my venue not my boss.

Fluffcat you seem to be missing the point. I don't think POWESELLER STATUS is a PAT on the BACK? DUH?! I earned it. Why do people like you have to emotionalize everything? Its like when you buy a LEXUS - its not a pat on the back from LEXUS - you earned it. Is that so hard to comprehend Fluffy? Sounds to me like you have some sort of psychological attatchment to powerseller. Giving up only hurt your sales not Ebay and who cares if you gave it up anyway. Does that make you noble?

Why the horror at the term "pat on the back?" If I give my kids a pat on the back for a good book report, does that demean them or me? Does it mean they didn't earn it? No, it is a (probably small) incentive for them to do well, and nobody, least of all me, would suggest that the reason they should work hard is so that Dad will pat them on the back.
There's nothing wrong or debasing to acknowledge that recognition from others feels good... and might make you work harder... which might make eBay more money.
I'm a Gold PS. Since I don't go to eBay Live, the only perk I've ever gotten is a personal rep to call on the phone. It's better than a stick in the eye, but not much better.

I'm always fascinated when people project their feelings onto others.
Why do people like you have to emotionalize everything? Its like when you buy a LEXUS - its not a pat on the back from LEXUS - you earned it. Is that so hard to comprehend Fluffy?
Well, yes, actually it is hard for me to comprehend. A Lexus is just an overpriced Toyota. Everyone with at least half a brain knows that.
If you don't think the image of Lexus as a luxury automobile has been carefully planted and expensively nurtured over the years by Toyota, then you truly do not understand marketing. (No surprise to me, most eBayers don't.) The campaign is successful because you are convinced that Lexus is an upscale brand.
Similarly, the PowerSeller marketing program is equally as successful in your case because you believe you "earned" it and "deserve" it.
Sounds to me like you have some sort of psychological attatchment to powerseller.
I'll leave that to the readers to judge. What about it, you out there in the studio audience? Does she win or does she just get a case of Rice-A-Roni as a fabulous parting gift?
Giving up only hurt your sales not Ebay
There hasn't been one study done -- not one -- that shows PowerSeller status affects sales in any way. Don't you think eBay would have commissioned such a study?
who cares if you gave it up anyway. Does that make you noble?
No. Just as not purchasing a Lexus means I don't buy the hype, giving up my PowerSeller status meant I was unwilling to participate in the deception.

Fluffy Wonder , you are such a left wing conspiracy theory paranoid! A lexus is a lexus not a souped up toyota and if you understood that people with standards can't be fooled you would know why I drive one. You think everyone is stupid and naive and is completely ruled by the power of a symbol. Not true. Lexus as some amazing features that make it a lux car. But if you can't see that, then that is why you probably drive a beat up truck and think its as good as a top of the line SUV.
Powerseller status is what you get if you meet a certain amount of sales on Ebay, and that is all it means! WHy do you read some sort of manipulative planning "by the man" into everything? I laugh. Ebay is not my Daddy - and powerseller status is not deceptive - it is factual - you make x amount of sales on ebay and you are a powerseller. End of story
as for you rocksober - I don't see you getting off your AZZ either to go help clean up. You are too busy judging others. How am I suppose to clean up after a catagory 5 hurricane? sounds like a job for uncle sam to me...or maybe you.
