Good luck Helga.
.
.Wasn't there something EXTRA that you could have done on Ebay with those EXTRA 15 hours that would have made you more than 90 dollars? .
.
.Is this an indictment against Ebay, Helga, or the economy?.
.
.
.And Republicans don't wan't to raise the minimum wage..
.
.Am I the only one that's saddened a bit by this thread?

I don't get it.
I can't figure out why I'm being picked on for working. Would it be better that I sit home on my butt doing nothing all day and sucking off of welfare? I'm working my @ss off at 2 jobs to support my daughter ~ a daughter I can't get child support for because her "father" can't take responsiblity for anything.
Longtime, I can't depend on eBay. Anything on eBay is extra and right now that extra is going towards my daughters trip to WI this summer for Nationals. What I can depend on is a job that i go to every day and work. I can't depend on people sitting at the computer trying to decide if they want to buy one of my items or not. Feel free to stroll on over to my auctions if you would like.
No one should feel saddened by this thread. I'm not. I'm happy that I'm out there trying to do something positive. I've never had things given to me from anyone ever. I don't have much but what I do have it's because I work for it.

Helga ... We're not picking on you! Some jokes have cropped up and ... well ... we're taking advantage of them to add a little levity to our day. That is all! I commend you for all that you do to support your daughter. I know the situation you are in because I am in the same situation. But, it's always best to find a little levity whenever we can because if we take life too seriously, and sometimes I do, we can end up in an early grave.
I know ... Let's compare grey hairs that our kids have given us! I think I take the cake at 40 ... I don't think anyone can beat me! It's a good think I'm blonde because those grey hairs would make me look about 60!!!!! Although I think we all know how many AND WHERE Classic has the most grey hairs!!!!! LOL ....

Helga....I am most definitely not picking on you. I too have been there and done that....whatever it took at the time to pay the bills. And I too am a single parent doing my best.
.
.I am happy for you.
.
.I am saddened that the economy and/or Ebay is in a state where you need to work for minimum wage when you are a capable Ebay seller. Nothing personal, but that says something to me about Ebay and/or the economy.

Well sometimes other people feel better about themselves when they try to belittle others. Or at least they “think” they feel better. What they don’t realize is that they are projecting or mirroring things that they don’t like about their own selves when they start beating that dead horse
They’re really just afraid that it could be them one day.
There’s nothing wrong with ANY job as long as it’s honest. When I worked doing my newspaper rack route I got to know a lot of people that worked in convenience stores and I have to admit that before I started doing that job that I thought mostly illiterate people took those kind of jobs, only because I couldn’t imagine anybody actually wanting to do that. I changed my perspective once I got to know them better. I certainly couldn’t do the job they did and they couldn’t imagine doing the job I did! But if nobody wanted to work behind the counter at the convenience store then there wouldn’t be any!
I guess it’s comparable to living in the USA. I can’t imagine anybody wanting to live up North, but then there are a lot of people that can’t imagine living where I live on the coast of Florida and dealing with hurricanes and mosquitoes
I do worry about you working in that environment because they are known to have a high crime rate with robberies and store hold ups. But then we could also say that about working in a Bank – couldn’t we?
I worry about you having to work 2 jobs and not having quality time to spend with your daughter. But I don’t know the grand plan so it’s not for me to say. I know that I have had jobs that have made NO SENSE that have led to much better jobs, so I also hope that’s true for you.
Not to bash Men here, but if more sperm donors were more responsible then women wouldn’t have to carry the load. And Men wouldn’t have to try to belittle us when we know what we are capable of

Everyone must be happy that you have another job but you shouldn't use your good fortune as an opportunity to denigrate people on welfare. This thread saddens me also. I wish that single mothers such as you did not have to work two or three jobs to survive.

IT's not good fortune.
I live in low income housing. In my "block" I am the only person that works. I come home and find people sitting on my front porch, in my back yard, partying, drinking, having a jolly good time...and it irritates me.
I don't like welfare and I don't like the idea of a free ride. If I did that's where I would be.

Well, you started this thread as if it was good fortune..."I think I got a new job!" Excuse me if I misinterpreted your motive. Maybe it's intended as a self congratulatory thread with your position juxtaposed against those on welfare? But it's simply not true that welfare recipients are ineligible and spend their days "sitting on their butts" having a "jolly good time".

glassgrl...you couldn't be more wrong. You don't know me. .
.
.You don't know that last summer, I too lost my power for awhile. When it came back on, the very first thing I did on my computer was to check on you as I knew you were close to the eye of the storm, and I and others were concerned.
.
.This is not a male/female issue, but I do happen to be a single father, thanks to an "egg donor". I'm happy for the donation though, my child is my life. .
.
.I am not belittling Helga. This is not a "Helga" forum. It is an Ebay board. I am saddened that Ebay and/or the economy is in such a state that Helga can do better working for minimum wage than working on Ebay.

I'm not going to get in a fight with you Helen.
If you think welfare is a-ok by all means think that.
I don't think it's okay, I don't like it, I would never be on it and I witness day in and day out how some people live. Doesn't teach my daughter a thing to see me sitting at home doing nothing taking money from the state.
You can have whatever view you want on welfare and you can let me have mine.
I work. I am glad I work. I'm happy I found another job becuase it means I can pay my bills without robbing peter to pay paul. It doesn't mean I'm going to be throwing money on my bed and rolling around in it. If I wanted to take the easy way out I could. But I won't.

I am calmly stating how I feel about the issue, Helga....no fight intended. I see your motive now. Best wishes with your new job....Jobs certainly are becoming more difficult to find...especially good paying ones!

Thank you longtime1. Although I suspect there's a name change somewhere along the line. I don't recognize your posting name.
My point was that while a male will look down his nose at a certain type of job, the females will say you go girl no matter what the job. And that's pretty much the case here.
Helga just got tired of Neglus's comments about being compared to a greeter at Walmart and I don't blame her.
And Helga - you are being just as judgemental in this case, so stop and think about it for a minute. Welfare is not "bad" or good - it just is. Your new job with 15 hours a week or whatever will not provide you with health care I don't think. So for some people, Welfare IS the only solution.
I've seen people in the nursing homes that had to give up everything they had worked all their lives for in order to qualify for Medicare and that's not right.
I've been in that same situation about Welfare. I applied for Food Stamps but the only problem was that I would have starved to death before the Food Stamps started had it not been for friends.
Ebay is defining the economy these days. Helga lost her retail job because the company went bankrupt. Ebay IS the economy. When you can find current designer clothing on Ebay for $30.00 when it used to sell for $300.00 in the store - it's going to impact the economy.
So we all need to take a chill pill or a two buck chuck here. There's no right or wrong. There's nothing wrong with Welfare, a job in a 7-11 or a greeter at Walmart. For the most part we spend too much time judging people and not enough time appreciating them. I don't care who you are, what your job is, or what you look like - there's something about you that we can appreciate.

Helga...Congratulations on your new job. I owned a business that relied quite heavily on part time and on call help. I know the difficulty in finding someone who is willing to work at a second job. There are a lot of people who won't even work a first job, choosing welfare instead and sponging off those who are willing to do an honest days work. Many of these part time employees went on to become full time and advance to a position where they made substantially more from me as a full time employee than they made working 2 jobs previously. There is no oppurtinity unless you're out there looking for it. A lot of people are out in the back yard looking for a four leaf clover and never hear opportunity knocking at the front door. I commend and respect you for what you are doing and the values you are teaching your daughter. People with yor character are few and far between. Best of luck on your new job and continue to hold your head high.

What's sad is someone who thinks a greeter job at Walmart is the worst imaginable job.
I've worked a lot jobs. I've done everything from driving a train to working on a garbage route.
How many people think their garbage people are someone to appreciate?
LOL I was in a group that taught us how to appreciate things in life. And one lady was having a hard time working with another person. She said that she really worked at finding something to appreciate about that person and she finally did.
She said she found she could appreciate the back of his head knowing he was leaving the room (and her!).

Well said!!!
And, congrats Helga! Jobs you like are hard to find especially ones that allow the kind of hours you need when you have children! I know what it's like to have more than one job. I once had three. I waitressed lunch hours from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at an upscale restaurant, went to work at a drug store as a pharmacy tech for a couple of hours until 4:00 p.m., came home, fed the kids, took them to the sitter and waitressed at a bar from 7:00 p.m. until 2:00 a.m. I actually got home at 3:00 a.m. Got up at 7:30 a.m. and started the day all over again - 6 days per week. Those were the days before eBay and boy am I glad they're over. Those hours would kill me now! But, they kept food on the table and a roof over our heads. Of course, the economy was far better then and tips were great!!
