The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is truly an American experience, born out of the great American religious upheaval in the 1840s...
Anybody who has an interest in American religious history really should study the life of Joseph Smith and the birth of the Mormons. Tis a real scarey eye-opener...
I always get a chuckle out of L. Ron Hubbard's fight with the IRS, leading to his stroke of genius in making-up a "religion" as a tax-dodge...But, in 100 years, will there be millions who actually swallow the baloney?
Amazing, amazing, amazing...

The lady that I worked for & she taught me how to do stained glass was Mormon. She was very nice and was easy to talk to about her religion and I could talk about my New Age thoughts. I enjoyed knowing her.
Of course the first question I asked was "what about pologymy?"
Ralphie & I agree: tis bad enough to poison the internet with a CAT picture -- but tis even WORSE to show the dreaded initials of da EVIL EMPIRE!
OTOH: whenever we get depressed, we throw on a tape of the GREAT COLLAPSE of 2004, hugging each other, dancing & shouting "Choke!CHOKE"

Ok, this thread has lasted long enough that I now have to respond.
My Tramatic Utah Experience.... I used to travel extensively for business. I HATE going to or through SLC! If I knew I was on a flight schedule for so much as a 5 minute landing in SLC, I'd trade in my tickets even if it meant a 5 hour lay over somewhere else. I must be a re-cycled Mormon wife or something. I don't know why I felt this way about SLC, but I would find myself in a rage just thinking about the possibility.
Last year while returning from AZ, I missed my flight. The only other flight out that night had a 3 hour lay-over in SLC. I had no choice but to go. I white knuckled the trip expecting my plane to be hijacked or something. Sat in the SLC terminal for 3 hours expecting the roof to cave in or my connecting flight to be canceled. Nadda/zip, nothing happened. Was not even approached by an Osmond (that's another story).
So, I guess I've worked off my SLC karma, but I still don't want to test that theory ever again! They can have their Salt basin, just leave me out of it!
