The difference is in state and local tax added to the base price.

Doesn't each state have different refining standards for their gasoline? - the stricter the more the cost? Think California's emission standards make gas sold there the highest in the nation. Now $2.29.9 to $2.33.9 and up for regular in LA area. Then there is the state sales tax which is included not to mention any county or city taxes..

$1.99 in Louisiana.

I say let them drill in Alaska. They have been ruining our coast for as long as I can remember. Let somebody else get a taste of it.

2.10 in the southwest...

I'm sure prices are going to go down. There's no way our President would sacrifice a wildlife refuge unless it was going to help us get cheap gas.

Sorry sparkz, but gasoline passed the prices of Coca-Cola, Pepsi Cola, and vinegar (based on a gallon of each) awhile back. Still cheaper than shampoo and salad dressing but how much freaking shampoo or salad dressing does one use?!?

$2.21 oer low octane unleaded gallon just north of the Kern oil fields and Teapot Dome.

My buddy runs his diesel on dirty cooking oil. His truck smells like a french fry going down the street.

Trouble is that when Alaskan wildlife reserve oil is drilled, it is not reserved for American consumption, It is sold on the world market for the going price per barrel and by then the Chinese may need a lot more than now and push the price up.

Here, about 50 miles north or San Francisco, price is about $2.25 for regular.

Funny thing about gas prices is that the closer you get to the gas refineries, the more it costs.

In San Luis Obispo - halfway between L.A. and San Fran - $2.46, $2.56, $2.66.

Lucy

P.S. Doesn't bother me a whole lot. My Maxima is a '96, bought it in '95. It finally has over 31,000 miles on it.

This is a hoot: With the price of gasoline right now, we've been trying to conserve. However, we couldn't understand why we'be been using so much gasoline. For a couple of months I've been telling Ken that the car smells like gasoline inside and for the last two days I've had to drive with the windows part way down. He finally took me seriously and checked. Turns out gasoline was spewing out from the fuel pressure regulator onto the manifold. Talk about a waste! Talk about a dangerous driving situation!! Of course, because it's a Jeep it's a $65 part (there goes more eBay profits) and we may have to order it.

Thank God for USPS pick up! No trips to the PO for me for the next few days.

Cheryl
