nicely said nutspec. i think, however, that what Baldwin said was figurative and until such time as he actually leaves(Kim Basinger?) i wouldn't get too upset with him. even Rush Limbaugh(whom i am not very fond of) has made some extreme statements but i think he loves his country.

nutspec- you said it all very well, and how it should be.

I did hear that Alec Baldwin along with other celebritys were going to give up their citzenship and leave the country if Bush won, and this was BEFORE the election. I didn't understand that.

I, too am glad and proud that I live in a country were there is freedom of speech, AND freedom AFTER speech.

Eight years of lies, now we have to listen to several years of cries.

Does tomato juice really eliminate bad odors?

Get over it, Bush won but was temporarily delayed by an idiot and his followers.

Gore will probably go back to house building as he was doing prior to becoming a Senator. He and Carter can work together.

Regardless, his political career is over..... Was there ever one?

On CNN last night they said--

'We will never know the name of the candidate who won the Presidency--we will only know the name of the one who lost it"

Actually, nearthesea, your little buckaroo wants to limit freedom of speech as he said in a speech last year:

kenny- happy birthday. don't get too chummy with the moderators. there are those who will accuse you of being personal friends with them when they support any of your issues with particular posters. besides, narrow skirts can be nice but i couldn't resist. we are getting off the subject though, sorry pat!

i just hope he has the wisdom to defer to his cabinet and advisors on virtually all issues

Trust me, that is NOT a worry.

and that he gets a really good speechwriter and follows the teleprompter word for word so as to not embarass the country with what will be his now more closely followed words.

C'mon, you don't really want to take away Dubya's ONE redeeming quality, do you? Personally, I can't wait for the faux pas to begin!!!

And Bush coulda gone back to doing ... what WAS it he was doing? Oh yeah, I remember.

Bush could've gone back to the business of doing nothing. And tying one on.

Actually I have seen the site-gwbush.com of which the article from whatever 'Parodies' site is on.

I was looking for Bushs' website and Gores website, and I did put in gwbush and I thought, wow... I think this is wrong

I understand, that there is always jokes about the President, and people in high office. But right now, things are pretty bitter. Yes I know that Bush has been thru rehab awhile ago. I know there will be jokes about it. But the bitterness today, and probably in days to come, of 'go back to drinking' don't have the tone of being in jest only, there seems to be something much deeper here.

Also the news, mainly CNN almost has a sound of 'mourning' in it. Gore may not be President these next 4 years, but the man is still alive, and lots of options in this life for him I'm sure.

If you are correctly stating what was said on CNN, the media bastardized the dissenting justice's (Stevens) statement and intent of statement.

He did not say,

"We will never know the name of the candidate who won the Presidency--we will only know the name of the one who lost it."

U.S. Supreme Court Jusitce (Stevens) said,

"Although we may never know with complete certainty the identity of the winner of this year's Presidential election, the identity of the loser is perfectly clear. It is the Nation's confidence in the judge……."

According to three (3) former US Supreme Court clerks (attorneys) for different justices (still seated), they collectively said that the media and Gore proponents have taken the statement out of context and have incorrectly interpreted the actual meaning of Stevens' statement.

The clerks said that Stevens' statement used in complete and accurate context is meaning, "Who in the end is the actual winner as a result of everything that has occurred in this year's election, the People, the States, Bush, Gore, Democrats, Republicans, etc.?

nearthesea,

That isn't parody, it's an article from the Dallas Morning News ABOUT bush's reaction to sites that parody him.

The portin below is direct reporting of what little buckaroo said.

Saying ]"there ought to be limits to freedom," Gov. George W. Bush has filed a legal complaint against the owners of a Web site that lampoons his White House bid.

Justice Steven's COMPLETE statement is
"Although we may never know with complete certainty the identity of the winner… the identity of the loser is perfectly clear. It is the nation's confidence in the judge as an impartial guardian of the law."

Who relies on the INTERPRETATION(s) of highly paid ex-clerks turned newscasters? Are they swammis?

I have always supported the President of the United States of America. I may not have liked him or his policies but I supported him because he won by vote.

I never believed I would say this but I can not support Bush. He did not win. He only stalled out the clock and was called winner. I could have supported Bush or Gore if the recount that was legal to ask for was done. I might not have cared for Bush but I would have respected his holding that office because he had the support and the vote. Unfortunately, that did not happen.

I am also of the belief that something will happen to the ballots. I don't believe we will ever know anything other than the fact that Bush stole the office of the presidency. For some unkown reason I have this picture of Ollie North's shredder working overtime the next few weeks.

I shudder to see the next country that decides to try the American way of voting. I doubt that we will be called on but if so I suggest that Bush, Cheney or his henchmen go so they can show the proper way to run out the clock and therefor win by default. Would we be proud or recognize another countries president if they did the same thing? I think not. We are such a hurry-up country anymore. What would have happened if we had actually counted those votes instead of repeating a hundred times that it has been done when we know it wasn't. Would our country having survived this many years crumbled? I really don't think so. We would have shown the world that we may not do something right but there is equal justice for all and we, the people vote and each vote actually counts and means something.

Lesson learned: If you think there is a possibility that you might not have the votes then stall out the clock and steal the office. We are no better than a rogue nation.

Am I bitter? I wasn't an avid supporter of Gore or Bush and I don't think it is so much that as I am disappointed that this could happen in the United States of America.

I would suggest the avid republicans that hate us Democrats , as IMLD2 said, save their energy because it is going to be a bumpy ride and you are going to have to develop your debating skills defending such a man.

I have always respected the right to be Democrat or Republican or other party and to differ and even to agree to disagree. What I can not respect or understand is the deep hatred that IMLD2 has stated that she has for us. I may hate the idea but not the man.

shar9 I can feel your frustration, and at first I felt the same way too. Unfortunately any counting of the ballots would be contested due to the equal protection rights act. This country needs a big overhauling of the mechanism and machinery, and new laws for the counting of the ballots. The supreme court decision will now set the precedence for any election disputes in the future. Everyone now will be able to cry equal protection in a close election.
Unfortunately this election is now over, and we must accept the results.
Let us hope a lesson was learned for both parties,as I see this win for Bush in the courts to not be anything to strut over. In the next four years, Bush will be scrutinized beyound belief. If I were him I would get rid of that James Baker as his spokesman. That may be a good start.....We will have to wait to judge the rest.

Did anyone catch the "Palm Beach" skit on SNL over the weekend? It was hilarious, but so close to the truth, it was scary, too.

Baker's classic "f.uck the Jews, they don't vote for us anyway" quote back in the Daddy Bush days is enough for me, before we even get into politics, personality or policy, me being a "Semite" and all.

Marwin, I appreciate your perspective, but we Jews don't define ourselves as "a voting group". If that was all we were, then your perspective would indeed be correct.
