Classic and Linda, you're aware there were TWO Roosevelts, right? The one you quote, Linda, was a Republican, and the one you're talking about, Classic, signed the order that imprisoned thousands of U.S. citizens of Japanese descent, while allowing the start of the Bracero program, which began the tide of Mexican and Central American immigration to this country.

Profe-Yes I was aware there were two Roosevelt's.I wasn't aware the one Linda was talking about was Teddy-the rough riders,San Juan hill etc.Since they have the same name I assume Theodore is the son of Teddy.I have no problem with the imprisoned Japanese citizens during the 2nd World War.They had spies at Pearl Harbor before the attack.I can imagine they probably had spies in the U.S. also. From what I've read, they were treated fairly. Was this fair to these citizens, who probably had or not wanted anything to do with the war?-probably not, but this was a "declared" war and we were at war with Japan-all Japanese at the time were considered the enemy. In retrospect,it also might have been for their own protection. When the U.S. gets attacked ie pearl harbor-9/11 it tends to piss us off.I'm not sure what would have happened to a group of Japanese citizens walking down main st U.S.A after Pearl Harbor. In Japan after the bombing of Tokyo,if you were an American, you're chances of even surviving were nil.
Bracero program-I was not aware or even heard of that problem.I have no problem with that either-as long as their LEGAL immigrants.
My high school sweet heart,Leslie, was Spanish. We were like two peas in a pod for 5 years and engaged to be married. We got along so well it was frightening. However every once in a great while,I would piss her off in some fashion{I know, its hard to believe isn't it?}She would retaliate by swearing at me in Spanish, which would piss me off as I had no idea what she was saying. To add further insult to injury she would do this with a smile on her face, which really pissed me off.....some people are unbelievably cruel.
But I'm not sure why you even brought up the Braceo program anyway, ya got something against Mexicans?

Theodore and Teddy were the same person. Franklin Roosevelt was elected in '33.
I mentioned the Bracero program and the imprisonment of Japanese Americans only because they were related to immigration, not because I have any opinion necessarily about either one.

Okay I stand corrected-I did mean Franklin
at the risk of showing my ignorance,[again]as I dont know much about this family-may I assume Franklin is Teddys son? I do know that Franklins son was in the 2nd world war in the Pacific...come to think of it I think his name was Teddy to??
As far as the immigration-I dont think you can campare the two as we were at war with Japan and not Mexico.

Teddy Roosevelt and FDR were 5th cousins. Franklin's wife Eleanor was also a distant cousin and the niece of Teddy Roosevelt (she was the daughter of Elliot Roosevelt, Teddy's youngest brother).
FDR and Eleanor had 6 children...5 boys and one girl. One son died in infancy. The other four sons - Elliot, James, Franklin Jr and John were all officers during WWII and all four were cited for bravery

Another of T's quotes:
"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language.. And we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

Classic, don't feel bad. I was telling someone here how superior I was with my intelligence, only I spelled intelligence wrong.
Bear, it's I'm voting, not I voting. Classic changed it, thank goodness.
