I've appreciated HUNTING ever since I visited a friend's family in UPSTATE NY back when I was in college (SYRACUSE 1966-70)...
This family lived on a mountain that was in their family since the early 1800's!
EVERYBODY in the family HUNTED -- they depended on their "harvest" to get them thru the harsh NY winter. NOTHING is ever wasted!
I was paired with the patriarch (the "old man) and watched him get his buck although I could barely see it, and we were hunting with shotgun "slugs" -- kinda like throwing a baseball at the animal (LOL!). Before field stripping the buck, he always said a quick little prayer of THANKS for feeding his family...
THANKSGIVING DINNER served venison and wild turkey and rabbit or squirrel stew...and some BEEF, as they always kept 3-4 "cows" around all year for milk and meat...
I don't think they shopped at the grocery much!
They produced MAPLE SYRUP for much of their income...
One thing I can just about guarantee is they would have NO respect for the baby harp seal hunt... None what-so-ever!

Don't try to play stupid with me you know very well what my point is. I believe Human life is far more important than animal life. That's my point.
I believe one Human life is worth more than all the seals killed.
They say the seals eat too many fish. Someone said then kill the adult seals. Why when the people can control the seals feeding on fish and make a profit on the fur.
The U.S. kills Innocent Humans everyday. The U.S. has set that example for the world to see. Then some Americans have the nerve to tell people from another country how to handle their animal population.
SORRY CON-servatives right to life people you can't have it both ways. You can't choose what life has a right to live only if it fits your political agenda.
BTW classic, your photos of dead seals is not nice to look at. Compared to photos of dead Humans piled on top of each other in Iraq the dead Animals is nothing.
I am sure you better get my point now classic. If not I really don't care what a person like you is thinking.

I read somewhere the reason why they club the seal is not to destroy the skin/fur ,bullet ridden fur would not make good fur coat??
As for folks who hunt/fish to put food on the table,the Hmong tribe still do in Wisconsin,remember the incident awhile back ??
The Vietnamese fishermen taught their American counterpart how to eat horseshoe crab (known as sea monkey in some part of Asia),there is a lot of meat inside and it tastes like lobster meat.

the French eat snails,so go after them.
The Chinese if they cant eat them,they use them in medicine,remember the sea horse and the rhino horn??
But they do eat the sea cucumber,it is a delicacy and not cheap.
Also the shark fins and the swallow salive and the palm of the bear and the brain of the monkey and the feet of chicken and duck .

Classic, did you know many of the animals people eat are also butchered while alive? Same with fur animals. I don't think there's anyone here that could watch how meat is handled, from beginning to end, and not feel sick.
How much suffering these animals go through should be addressed and not swept under the carpet as being "one of those things". The seal hunt is no different. Put your pet's picture in place of one of those seals or the next cow to be slaughtered. There's no difference, imo.
To your earlier post: I saw Hildago! You're right. Excellent movie. I love the ending.
To the seals post:
Clubbing seals is reprehensible. There's not need for that. There is an over population because we've also killed off some of their natural predators. There's a reason for every living thing on this planet. Yes, even spiders and other creepy crawlies (I shudder to think). When we start hunting and killing off one species, we are causing the over-population of another. And, by developing rural areas, we are forcing animals such as deer into the cities where they are being killed off.
Edited to add: I have no problem with hunting if the meat is going to be used for eating and the pelt is going to be used as well. Hunting for sport and then wasting the meat is what I'm against.

Linda-funny you should mention that.I have been taping "Almanac-year by year" on my Tivo.Im now up to 1933 when Roosevelt was elected president and Adolph Hitler was named chancellor.They had a couple of his speeches on and he wasnt a bad speaker at all,I enjoyed listening to him.

That would be interesting, classic. I'm glad you're finding the time to do some of the things you really enjoy doing in your retirement.
He was, imo, an interesting man. An 'old democrat' I call him...not because of his age...but he held nothing back. If he felt it...he said it.
And again, imo, JFK was the LAST democratic president that I found anything to admire about.
Since that time...the dem presidents just never had what the 'old democrats' did....that special love of this country...rather than all this 'Internationalist' crap. And a willingness to protect it.
