I watch them every night...I fall asleep while they're on at night (around 10, so I sleep through what I really want to see and have to catch it on the news next morning).
I enjoyed the snowboarding (halfpipe), all figure skating (I, too, wanted to see Michele get a gold), skiing, and speed skating (I especially enjoy Apollo Ono).
What country got busted for doping? Syringes and such were found.....

Helen - I hate to say it but you didn't really miss much. The Russian (can't spell his name to save my life) was almost mechanical - big jumping sequences but no artistry - just lots of wierd arm motions. It just was not pretty. The onylreal standout was Lycechek who just blew it on the short program but came back for the long with a fantastic routine in the long program. Didn't blow any jumps and was pretty to watch. His was the only routine where you could tell wanching on tTV that the crowds actually got into.
I'm watching the tape from the Ice Wipeout... um... I mean Dancing. I've never seen a couple fall in Ice dancing, much less half a dozen couples do it. And they do it ugly. Tripping all over each other and flailing about in a mass of feathers and chiffon.... I'm actualy finding Ice Dancing interesting

Mags - the doping scandal was with the Austrians. It's a wierd one stemming from reports that a coach banned after the last Olympics was reported to be in the area. The Italian police stormed the Austrian quarters but didn't find the coach who later got busted driving into a roadblock at the Austrian border and has now committed himself. They did find syringes and trnsfusion equipment and a bunch of the cross country and biathalon members have been tested.
The bust took place the night before a big cross country event, the skiers were kept up all night by the police and the next day - the Italians won the event.
One of those stories that if you wrote it as a TV plot no one would buy it.

fenix, I'm watching on NBC.
Your so right about Apollo Ohno. They did a short bit about him. After the SLC Olympics he sort of went a little wild having a good time, parties, Tonight Show, other shows, lots of girls & was even asked to be a judge on Miss World. He said one day he realized he didn't like this life & was happy when he lived & trained at the Olympic Training Center so he went back. He grew up very fast & it certainly does show.
About Davis, even the interviewer, after receiving short answers about winning the gold, suddenly said, Are you mad about something. His answer, Just trying to collect my thoughts.
He's a cold guy, barely showed any emotion on the podium.
Missed the Russian interview, would have liked to have seen that.
The Chinese have come a long way in a very short time. As very young children they leave home & live at training camps. I suppose only the best are chosen.

Helen - calling Helen.... did you watch last night? If you did, did Chad Hedricks comments remind you of anyone?
I had to laugh this morning when he was on the Today show when he justified not congratulating his teammate on his earlier win by saying that he felt he was betrayed by Davis. Here he had trained his whole life and Davis had taken away his opportunity at an Olympic gold by not racing the pursuit. Too bad Matt didn't call him on that one. He tried speed skating years ago, didn't get enough attention and so quit almost immediately then only returned less than 4 years ago. Everytime the guy opens his mouth he somehow manages to annoy the hell out of me.
I think he offered three different excuses in the same post race interview for why he didn't win.

You know who he reminded me of? Linda. All he has done for the past week is talk about what a super patriot he he. HE marched in the opening ceremonies where 50,000 people were rooting for his country to do the best the could. HE was racing for his country in the pursuit. Hendrick keeps talking about "my country" but his actions and attitude scream ME! ME! ME! LOOK AT MEEEEEE!!!
The best part was during the interview this morning where he talked about how he won the first gold for the US and hopefully he would win the last one in his race on Saturday.
I guess that means he won't be rooting for Ohno or Bode Miller or any of the other athletes competing on Saturday afternoon and evening.
Hendrick is in my top 3 right now for complete lack of sportsmanship. He is there with the Italian woman ice dancer who would not talk to her partner the entire day of finals and Russian female ice skater I mentioned earlier.
