Off topic: Linda, I didn't say anything about "unions not being allowed to", what I said was, the miners had not been allowed to unionize. I based that on an interview with a victim's family member who was interviewed on MSNBC. She said that the Sago miners had not been allowed by the Co. to form a union, and she felt that if the union had been a force there there would have been fewer safety violations. In what way they were prevented I don't know. Although it's illegal in many states to prevent workers from organizing, everybody knows there are ways that employers, especially employers in a one employer town, can "influence" employees' decisions about what organizations they join. I'm not a union man, and am not interested in a pro-vs-con union discussion. In over a quarter of a century of education, I've never belonged to a teacher's professional organization, other than the National Association of Teachers of Mathematics, and the Association of Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages, neither of which is a political or job-related group...It is true that the mineers there were over 90 percent non-union.

Profe, I'm not disagreeing with you.
I know that before today, I had always had the impression it was done on purpose... Like a curse.
But our discussion today was specifically about Greeks and their point of view on the Eye. I'm sure there are lots of variations on the Evil Eye thing depending on where you live.

well, profe IF you had anwsered in the correct thread, I did quote you there.
So ONE family member saying this makes it true? Not imo. Maybe her family member wanted them to unionized...but I see no proof the workers voted on it.

I wonder why Jennifer Aniston isn't always sick? With all those magazine covers, you know SOMEBODY'S giving her the eye!
LOL....her and every other 'beauty' that is looked at by millions. Maybe it doesn't affect them/their lives because they don't believe in it either. Otherwise there'd be a heck of a lot of Playboy, porno etc models getting ill from all the men that lust after them.
I call it just suspicion or old wives tales passed down for generations and generations.
