I like photography of great faces (the kind that say, I have been places and seen things and have stories to tell) and Gregory Colberts animal shots.

I like all kinds of art, paintings, photos, sculpture, etc. But I don't have much in my house, as most of my walls are devoted to bookcases.  I do, however, have a wonderful oil painting of Barnabas Collins that I bought years ago at a convention that several collectors have offered me small fortunes for. But it's mine, mine, all mine...

Not exactly, but quite a few relicarios, or reliquaries, that contain what are supposed to be little bits and pieces of saints; bones, hair and stuff like that. My grandmother and great grandmother collected them. Some appeal to me and some give me the willies for some reason. Those stay put away in the safe....the great thing about being 'catlick is you get to choose your favorite saints.

Saint for Cuervo??? You need to try a real Tequila, Bear..let me suggest Sauza Hornitos or Tres Generaciones, Maybe some Herradura Anejo....There are a bunch of saints for drunks though. My favorite is San Martin.
He was of noble birth like most saints and was given to drunken good times most of his life. Eventually he lost his taste for the hootch and acquired one for sober Christianity. So he took to preaching with the same fervor that he had once had for the bottle.
One day he was lecturing the folks in a village about their wicked ways and a goose started honking so loudly that it interfered with his speech. Not to be outdone he ordered the goose slaughtered and then finished his sermon. Afterward the goose was cooked and served to him.
He choked to death eating the goose.

As for art: I collect oils and prints...good ones by new and old artists/illustrators you may have heard of or may not BUT NO Thomas Kinkades BLECCHH!! What garbage!! I can NOT understand how he got so popular!!????What crap! GAWD he stinks! Talk about "assembly line" poop! Jeez How can people buy that junk!????

Bear, I guess if I had to choose 1 standby it would be Sauza Tequila Anejo Tres Generaciones. I hardly ever drink Tequila, maybe once or twice a year at a wedding or baptism toast, but it's nice to have a good one when I do.

I would like to hang some paintings by artists labeled degenerate by the Nazis...such as Emile Nolde and Franz Marc and Van Gogh. Since I can't afford good art, I keep my walls covered with books.

Here we have more family photos on walls, but we do have some art. Most paintings we do have were done by local northwest artists.

Helen, I have to disagree when you say you can't afford good art. Yup, we can't have that lovely Renoir we saw at Sotheby's BUT there is so much art out there by artist's no one will ever hear about.
It can be found at art fairs, small town cafes, ebay(with LOTS of searching), antique shops, and don't forget those people who bought paintings at Goodwill, took them to Antiques Roadshow and found out they're worth thousands!
Heck, I have a couple of nice paintings by my hairdresser!
My husband, a none art person, walked into an antique store and picked up a great painting for $10.00.!
But I understand your problem, I sold tons of books to just make space in the house!

That's how I got started on Ebay too...selling books! But my interest in amateur art is usually limited to analyzing what went wrong.
My kids keep me supplied with paintings, photographs etc. I have an easel where I display the latest acquisition.

The oil paintings I have hanging in my home are mostly of seascapes. I love the ocean...the sea...lakes....large bodies of water. It's so peaceful to me.
But I do have many pictures of my family and friends, framed and displayed all over my house. THEY are my most precious possessions.

I got the easel idea from a friend who displays paintings that he checks out from the library...really good art that he uses to teach his children about art.

I love anything whimsical.
My entire house looks like an antique toy shop, shabby chic, toys, dolls, doll houses, elves, fairies, toy airplanes hanging from bedroom ceilings, antique doll carriages, hand carved whimsical animals, oil paintings of whimsical children by Roybal. Lots of Katherine's collectibles, just fun stuff for me.
